Voiz Noiz album
$7.59 Pioneers in Southern nu-metal, Atlanta's Rehab mix the Allman Brothers' brand of swampy, oft-breezy hard rock with a rap style ranging from Public Enemy's rolling thunder to Eminem's brash silliness (with an occasional splash of Sublime-esque sunshine). It's a truly unique style unleashed on their 2000 self-released debut, SOUTHERN DISCOMFORT, highlighted by the melancholy philosophy and meandering, suave jazz of "Thinkin' Again" and the quasi-novelty country bar ballad "Sittin' At a Bar" (a hit eight years later retitled and reworked as "Bartender's Song").

| | Daft Punk Human After All CD (2005)
Voiz Noiz CD music
$11.55 Recorded in less than two months, HUMAN AFTER ALL, the third studio album by the French duo of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, gives off an immediate electronic rush. The opening title track, with its wonderfully distorted synthesizers and robotic vocals, might make listeners question whether humans created any of these sounds, but, chances are, they'll be too busy dancing to care. The most notable change in the Daft Punk aesthetic is the heavier presence of guitars (all played by de Homem-Christo and Bangalter), particularly on the aforementioned "Human After All" and the fuzzed-out funk of "Robot Rock." Of course, the duo excels at club beats, and the disc is filled with dance-floor-ready, vocoder-laden tunes, including the driving "Television Rules the Nation" and ...

| | Steve Roach Kiva CD (1995)
Voiz Noiz songs
$14.29 Steve Roach rounds out the final part of this wonderful triptych, here collaborating with fellow space music maven Michael Stearns and Native American musician Ron Sunsinger. As ominous electronic spirals unwind and writhe behind the disc's eerie chants and naturally realized sounds, it derives its latent power from, and heartily champions, the desert's ceremonial legacy. All three musicians have trodden down these paths before, but, as on "Mother Ayahuasca," the addition of pulsating analog blips and mutated whistles lends just the right degree of strangeness that both contradicts the sacred charms of the unfolding compositions, yet is most integral to their development. Though it's difficult to say which of the three ...

| | Stuff Pick It Up Pig Boy CD (2005) (Import) Australia
Voiz Noiz CD music
$31.55 The popular and eccentric first record from Sweden's alternative rock quartet. 2005, Australian import.
The stuff has a style of early British pop rock. In 'Your Libido', the music sounds a bit like T. Rex's Bang A Gong and vocally has hints of Marc Bolan. The vocals on Pick it Up, Pig Boy all have echo and that becomes quite annoying but the songs ...

| | Humcrush Hornswoggle CD (2006) (Import) Norway
Voiz Noiz album
$16.95 The second album from the duo that is Thomas Strønen and Ståle Storløkken, now simply calling themselves Humcrush, after the title of their debut from 2004. While that had a focus on rhythm and abstract grooves, this is a more varied, subtle and somehow eclectic output. Thomas Strønen has studied music and composition. He is a regular member of several bands, most notably Food, Maria Kannegaard Trio and Parish, the quartet led by Swedish ace pianist Bobo Stenson. Having appeared on 30 records, he released his first solo album Pohlitz earlier this year. Ståle Storløkken is a founding member of Supersilent, Terje Rypdal's Skywards, Bol and jazzrock quartet Cucumber but was first noticed with freeform trio Veslefrekk with fellow Supersilent members Arve Henriksen and Jarle Vespestad. This group was formed as a result of meeting at the "jazz academy" in Trondheim, an important breeding ground for a whole generation of young players in Norway. Storløkken is probably the most interesting and adventurous electric keyboard player operating ...
