Harem Scarem album
$5.99 Jo Dee Messina's sophomore album might be called I'M ALRIGHT, but its real message is "I'm Alright...without you." In song after song on this mostly upbeat album, Jo Dee plays the Strong Woman role, whether she's telling unfaithful or non-committal lovers to beat it, or insisting on a relationship that's equal in every way. In the infectious "Bye Bye," she's driving away from her loser boyfriend, declaring that she's got "the rear view mirror torn off, I ain't never lookin' back." Elsewhere, she's talking herself into leaving a nowhere relationship ("No Time For Tears"), refusing to get involved with a guy who's bad news ("I Know A Heartache") or warning a straying lover that he'll get what's coming to him one day (a cover of the late Dottie West's hit "Lesson In Leaving"). These types of songs are Messina's strength. I'M ALRIGHT is a fine follow-up to Messina's hit debut, with well-chosen material that provides a showcase for her powerful voice.
Recorded at Loud Recording, Nashville, Tennessee.
Personnel: Jo Dee Messina (vocals); Larry Byrum (acoustic guitar); Brent Mason, Michael Landau, Dann Huff, Pat Buchanan, Jeffrey C. King, Byron Gallimore (electric guitar); Paul Franklin, ...
| | Frank Gambale Show Me What You Can Do CD (1998)
Harem Scarem CD music
$14.15 What happens when you throw three virtuosos together in a room and tell them to create something that showcases their abilities and is also interesting to listen to? Tone Center Records found out when they commissioned the fiery Aussie guitarist Frank Gambale, bass monster Stuart Hamm and drum god Steve Smith for the self-explanatory SHOW ME WHAT YOU CAN DO. The result is a power trio album of tremendous strength and envelope-pushing musical madness.
From the thunderous opening of "Bad Intent," it's obvious these boys didn't waste time getting to the good stuff. The testosterone is flowing heavily into the driving groove of "The Promise" as Gambale's piercing guitar surfs over Smith and Hamm's relentless pounding. Later, things take a on somewhat lighter shade on the slinky "Sink," until a powerful drum intro by Smith leads into a driving chops-fest known as "Wrong And Strong." Downshifting into low gear, the expressive "Tanya's Touch" is proof that these guys aren't just about technical facility. Finally, the trio pulls off a lightning fast swing pace on "Lydia's Love Van." Warning: take your vitamins for this one. Only the strong will survive!

| | Dokken Under Lock And Key CD
Harem Scarem music CDs
$8.95 Dokken wasted no time in issuing a follow-up to its breakthrough 1984 release, TOOTH AND NAIL. Although the band had been on tour constantly since the debut's release, Dokken went directly back into the studio, issuing UNDER LOCK AND KEY one year later. The new album bore stylistic similarities to its predecessor, although it was apparent that the members of Dokken were becoming better songwriters. Though the album's cover shot seemed inspired by the then-popular glam metal scene, Dokken soon rejected the look during the album's ensuing tour.
Like its predecessor, a single/video issued several months after the album's initial release ensured this record's commercial success--this time it was the melodic rocker "In My Dreams." Other highlights include the rockers "Unchain the Night" and "The Hunter," as well as "It's Not Love," the last of which was ...

Harem Scarem songs
$31.55 From the infamous open-call auditions to the eleventh hour recruitment of former Snot axeman Mike Smith, finding a suitable guitarist to replace Wes Borland proved to be a daunting task for Limp Bizkit. Pushing off somewhat from their trademark rap-metal model, the songs that comprise RESULTS MAY VARY display a band reaching musically.
"Gimme the Mic" carries on the spirit the band found success with on SIGNIFICANT OTHER, but the majority of this latest effort finds frontman Fred Durst and company leaning towards a more melodic and musical stance, both instrumentally and vocally. Nods to contemporaries sneak in on "Eat You Alive" and "Down Another Day," (with a clear Tool influence prevailing), and uber-producer Brendan O'Brien mixes in a crisp, biting production. The lyrics to the classic Who track "Behind Blue Eyes" struck enough of a responsive chord with Durst that he was inspired to cover it, going so far as to add an additional verse. Rap metal may be going the way of the dinosaur, but Limp Bizkit seems to have the staying power to carry on.
Fourth studio album from Limp Bizkit & the follow-up to their 2000 release 'Chocolate Starfish & The Hot Dog Flavored Water'. Produced by Rick Rubin, 'Results May Vary' is the first album to feature ex-Snot guitarist Mike Smith who has replaced Wes Borland. Testosterone overloaded rap metal with influences of Korn, Red Hot Chili Peppers & Faith No More. The Japanese edition features 18 tracks including 2 bonus tracks, 'Let It Go' & 'Armpit'. Interscope. 2003.

| | Brian Eno Drop CD (1997)
Harem Scarem album
$13.79 On THE DROP, Brian Eno's first non-collaborative full-length work in four years, one of the master sculptors of late Twentieth Century sonic landscapes is once again off on an expedition to discover new moods and textures. Comparatively speaking, each of these seventeen instrumental pieces contains more physical motion than some of Eno's older ambient albums.
Some vignettes are drenched with a computerized soul that is nearly impossible to pin down -- particularly the Eastern-tinged, sorta funky, quasi-hip-hop of "M.C. Organ," and the syncopated rhythms and synth of the indescribably catchy "Swanky." But the THE DROP's standout is unquestionably the closing, half-hour-long "Iced World." With a mid-tempo backdrop of light, bell-like percussion and muted bass ...
