(12 Customer Reviews)
Scientist is a master reggae singer/mix-master who, in 1981, recorded this deep, dark, spooky set of dub. Dub, for those new to the term, is a style of reggae where a song is deconstructed/reconstructed by the person running the mixing board. Echoes are added, vocals are subtracted, voices and instruments bounce about like balls in a game of pool. The boisterous vocals jump out at you, the bass is heavy enough to rock your insides, the drums reverberate like ghostly footfalls and the other instruments--guitar, horns, keyboards--create earthy yet eerie textures. Don't let the title put you off--RIDS THE WORLD is top-of-the-line dub reggae.

| | James Taylor Greatest Hits CD (1976)
Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of The Vampires album
$10.49 Principally recorded at Sound Factory, Sunset Sound, Crystal Recording Studios and Warner Bros. Recording Studios, Hollywood, California between 1969 & 1976.
What self-respecting '70s pop music fan's collection would be complete without James Taylor's GREATEST HITS? Not many, apparently, since it is one of the biggest selling catalog titles of all time. All of Taylor's huge hits from the first, and possibly most acclaimed, leg of his long career are included. "Fire And Rain," "You've Got A Friend," "Sweet Baby James" and "How Sweet It Is" sound as golden as the day they were first heard on the radio.
Interestingly, two of the songs here, "Something In the Way She Moves" and "Carolina In My Mind" from Taylor's first album have been re-recorded especially for this collection. Special guests like Carole King, Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, Graham Nash, David Crosby and David Sanborn add an extra special something to the atmosphere. Listening to these songs together in one collection takes you back to a gentler time when a carefully crafted song was a thing of beauty and not just a product to be marketed like so ...

| | Bobby "Blue" Bland Two Steps From The Blues CD (1961) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of The Vampires songs
$8.49 This reissue contains two bonus tracks from the original LP sessions.
Recorded between March 12, 1956 and November 12, 1960. Includes liner notes by Bill Dahl and Dzondria Lalsac.
If you are unfamiliar with Bobby Bland, TWO STEPS FROM THE BLUES is the place to start. The album marked a watershed of creative bursts and commercial recognition for the legendary blues singer. The foundation of TWO STEPS' blues was an uptown Texas blues sound, relying more on sophisticated arrangements, horns, and orchestras than gut-bucket Delta guitar heroics. Inside the lush grooves, Bland moved with restraint, crooning seductively, a tried-and-true ladies man. Which is not to say that Bland is all smooth grooves and sweet nothings. No, his gospel roots rise up like thunderclouds at precise moments, erupting to transform the album's ballads into rattling experiences. The undeniable power of Bland's squalls punctuates "Cry, Cry, Cry" and "I Pity the Fool." His trademark mixture of smoky crooning and strangled outbursts has helped place Bobby Bland alongside the best R&B singers of the century.
Without a doubt, Two Steps From the Blues is the definitive Bobby "Blue" Bland album and one of the great records in electric blues and soul-blues. In fact, it's one of the key albums in modern blues, marking a turning point when juke joint blues were seamlessly blended with gospel and Southern soul, creating a distinctly Southern sound where all of these styles blended so thoroughly it was impossible to tell where ...
