This ambitious quartet aims to combine raucous, guitar-driven alt-rock with sneaky hooks and traditional popcraft. Echoes of Counting Crows (whose keyboard player Charley Gillingham guests on several of the songs here), Toad The Wet Sprocket and Pearl Jam are a clue that Cola's approach tends more towards earnest soul-baring than the jokey flash-in-the-panisms of too many of their peers. Singer Tim Bass's vocal flexibility enables him to convincingly belt out rockers like the aptly titled "Overdriven" and to swoop up into a falsetto on the appealingly melodic "Fun." His bandmates are with him every step of the way, providing a propulsive backbeat and a three-dimensional tonal palette for the collectively-composed tunes on WHATNOT.

Selling for a dollar (yes, a dollar) on ebay? Oh, Bill..what the heck happened? You are amazingly talented, and it all went to hell. You need to come back on the scene. You are missed. By the way, if you are not already aware, Mick Karn is dying of cancer. Check out his site for how to donate. Will always love you,
