1988's AMNESIA finds Thompson at the beginning of his long, aesthetically successful collaboration with American producer Mitchell Froom. Froom helped to modernize Thompson's sound, taking him further away from his folk-rock background (an idea that must have appealed immensely to the ever forward-looking RT) without losing what made him special. So, though the production values are a touch more high tech on AMNESIA, the Thompson fire still burns bright. The beautiful, longing ballad "Waltzing's For Dreamers" and blazing "Gypsy Love Songs" find Richard the songwriter at the top of his game, while his guitar work is as phenomenal as ever on the tear-'em-up coda of "You Can't Win." AMNESIA pointed the way towards a healthy new direction in Thompson's recording career.
Out of print in the U.S.! Longtime Folk legend (and former Fairport Convention member) Richard Thompson's 1988 album, his second with producer Mitchell Froom (Crowded House, etc.). Often cited as one of his best solo releases, Amnesia fondly recalls the best of his early work while keeping the sound modern and forward-looking. Features musical assistance from a variety of great musicians including Clive Gregson, Jim Keltner, Tony Levin, Alex Acuna, Mickey Curry, Danny Thompson, Jerry Scheff and many others. EMI.
Wild Weekend songs. Yes, there were many compilations of Jerry Lee Lewis' Sun recordings, of various sizes, before this two-CD set. And, yes, there are better single-disc compilations for those who just want the very best and most famous stuff, and better multi-disc sets for those who want to go into his Sun catalog in depth. However, if you want more than what a standard greatest-hits collection offers but don't need a huge box set, this 40-track anthology is a good deal, even if considerably more music could have been fit onto each CD (the total running time falling a little shy of 100 minutes). All of the hits are here, as well as some of his better-known more obscure Sun sides ("Big Blon' Baby," "Break Up," "Fools Like Me," "Down the Line," "It'll Be Me," "Lovin' Up a Storm"). While much of the rest of the set is given over to covers of famous rock, R&B, and country hits, on these Lewis proves his skills as an excellent interpretive artist, with material varying from "What'd I Say," "Good Golly Miss Molly," and "Little Queenie" to "Mean Woman Blues," "You Win Again," and "Good Rockin' Tonight." ~ Richie Unterberger

Wild Weekend CD music. Chet Atkins' sleek, elegant guitar-playing almost single-handedly ushered in the so-called Nashville sound in the 1950s and 1960s, and in retrospect his perfect tone and easy grace on the guitar on his solo albums almost seem closer to smooth jazz ...

Wild Weekend album. Vancouver four-piece Hedley appear to have done everything possible to distance themselves from lead singer Jacob Hoggard's Canadian Idol background, whether through their heavily tattooed image or regular recruitment of producer Brian Howes (Puddle of Mudd, Nickelback), but their fourth ...
