This version of WHERE NO LIFE DWELLS contains all the original album tracks, as well as the AND THE LAUGHTER HAS DIED single, various compilation tracks and previously unreleased demos.
On Unleashed's 1991 debut, Where No Life Dwells, the Swedish outfit reveals a commitment to two kinds of death metal: fast and faster. Pure and enthusiastic, this disc plays like an audio textbook for those interested in the state and design of early-'90s death metal excess. The riffs are furious and occasionally undefined, but drummer Anders Schultz does an exceptional job leading his bandmates through the Unleashed sonic assault during highlights like "Before the Creation of Time" and the more plodding but totally brutal "...And the Laughter Had Died." The rest of the group keeps pace, as every player hits his mark with precision and just a little flair. As death metal debuts go, this is a very impressive one from the stylistically myopic but musically consistent Unleashed. ~ Vincent Jeffries

Fans who remember Apocalyptica from its first two albums might have suspected that the four Finnish cellists would fade into obscurity after their stock of Metallica covers ran dry. Sure, the shtick worked well while it lasted, but the irony of classically trained cellists covering heavy metal will only hold listeners' attention for so long. This is why, on their third album, they've taken some risks. The ensemble has grown to feature a double bass, orchestral percussion, and distorted cellos. Plus, they stick strickly to their own songs, and, at a time when heavy metal has gone the way of dodo birds and disco, they've refused to abandon their roots.
