| | Amf Bach: Violin Concertos CD (2009)
Wagner: Tannhäuser / Konwitschny, Hopf, Grümmer
$9.99 Young German violin virtuoso Julia Fischer, who was named Artist of the Year in 2007 by Gramophone Magazine, has been lauded for her immaculate technique and thoughtful interpretations. Having recorded the solo sonatas and partitas of Johann Sebastian Bach in 2005, Fischer now turns her attention to the violin concertos of her compatriot in her debut album for the Decca label. While she performs the works in a modern idiom, Fischer is mindful of aspects of early music performance practice. She employs brisk tempos and minimal vibrato, and leads the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields herself, joining in with the orchestra in tutti sections in a truly collaborative spirit.

| | Ever After CD (1998) Original Soundtrack
Wagner: Tannhäuser / Konwitschny, Hopf, Grümmer
$11.35 There are a number of elements that will grab the casual consumer's attention here, but let's face it, George Fenton's score isn't one of them. That's not to say his passionate, sensitive, often humorous orchestral compositions are unremarkable; his score is the perfect complement to this charming, old-fashioned film. It's just that the one pop track (Texas' "Put Your Arms Around Me") out of this soundtrack album's 22 cuts is the one that's bound to get all the attention. And naturally, there's not much point competing with the beaming visage of Drew Barrymore, whose mug adorns not only the film, but the disc's packaging. All of which is a shame, since Mr. Fenton's work is one of the more interesting of its kind. Those attracted by the admittedly infectious Texas tune will ultimately be affected by Fenton's score for this "Cinderella Story," though.
Original score by George Fenton.
Producers: George Fenton, Dave Stewart, Texas.
Engineers include: John Richards, Keith Grant.
