George Benson's sound is so recognizable that, in its way, it's quite comforting to hear his voice or his guitar come across on the radio or in a club. His recordings have been polished and extravagant in many cases, but there are those signature elements-his relaxed delivery and silky touch on the strings and his voice, as evocative as a cool breeze floating across a hot summer night. SONGS AND STORIES doesn't deviate from his formula a great deal, but it doesn't have to. Janet Simons has "played" around for years with making music with her guitar. As a teacher she wrote songs for school-age children. As a deeply religious person she has written music to many psalms and other life experiences. But her best and larger collection of melodies were set to the great poems E. E. CUMMINGS. As a student she was introduced to e.e. cummings in college and fell in love with poems "i carry you heart," and "you shall above all things be glad and young." Later, a friend encouraged her to put those poems to music. Using such great poems in musical form forces the listener to think. This thoughtful thinking helps the listener reflect on the true meaning love, life, letting go, and beauty. So as the years went by the dream was to make a CD so the melodies to these great poems would not be lost.I do enjoy all the songs but some I love. I hope you do too.
