Originally released several years before Tom Cruise’s take on the incident in the Hollywood film VALKYRIE, this thrilling historical drama details the events leading up to one of the most prominent assassination attempts of Adolph Hitler by his own soldiers. This adaptation of Henryk Sienkiewicz's novel was made on a big budget in the author's native country, Poland. Set during the reign of the Roman emperor Nero, QUO VADIS tells the story of a young soldier, Marcus Vinicius, who falls under the sway of Christianity when he falls in love with Lygia, a believer in the growing religion. Acclaimed filmmaker Jerzy Kawalerowicz directs his last film--one of the most lavish and expensive films ever made in Poland. This familiar tale of Christianity set against the backdrop of Emperor Nero and the burning of Rome begins when soldier Marcus Vinicius returns to the Eternal City for rest and relaxation. Polish action star Boguslaw Linda costars as Vinicius's uncle Petronius, an official in good standing with the corrupt Emperor. Vinicius's loyalties are tested when he becomes interested in the teachings of Jesus through his sweetheart Lygia.
