The Death Row musical empire delivers yet another first--the first greatest-hits album by a West Coast rap label. DEATH ROW GREATEST HITS compiles the hottest tracks by a roster that includes Dr. Dre, Snoop Doggy Dogg and 2Pac, three of the most important artists in hip-hop history.
After 2Pac's death and Dr. Dre's departure from the label, fans needed to be reminded of the influence that Death Row has had on hip-hop. Two discs deep, the album mostly highlights the careers of Snoop and 2Pac, but doesn't fail to recognize the contributions of Dr. Dre, who is credited with most of the album's production.
Includes liner notes by Suge Knight.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
Producers include: Dr. Dre, Dat Nigga Daz, Sir Jinx, 2Pac, D.J. Quik.
Engineers include: Tony Pizarro, Dave Aron, Tom Daugherty.

Death Row Greatest Hits album
$15.35 His third solo album still warm on the racks, controversial rapper 2PAC follows up with this group side project. It's a gangsta record, of course, loaded with tales of young men and their guns. But neither 2PAC nor anyone else in the genre has ever sounded so buoyant or light.
Floating on soulful loops borrowed from the Isley Brothers, Curtis Mayfield and others, these tales soften their inevitable outcome (either you get killed, or your best friend does) with humor and warmth. And a good half of them actually swing. The chorus of "Stay True" bends the melody of Prince's anti-drug song "Pop Life" into a recitation of the code of the street, "gotta do ...

$14.29 A great hip-hop album relies on a balance of two components: lyrical skill and correctly-matched production. Often they can be found in conflict, undermining one another; but when an artist masters both techniques, the results can be incredibly rewarding. On his solo debut THE CHRONIC, Dr. Dre not only discovered this balance but took it to the next level, making gangsta funk a multi-platinum commodity and changing the face of rap forever.
Dre (nee Andre Young) began his musical career with the World Class Wreckin' Cru, but came to prominence as one of the founding members of hip-hop's first ...

Not as good as I thought it would be Disc 2 with the remixes didn't have the bass driven, speaker shaken rythyms I expected. The Tupac remake is way to jazzy.
I've had it two weeks and have only played it once. Submitted by a reviewer (Los Angeles, Ca) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
