| XYZ Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews great music this band should have made it much bigger than they did.the song "what keeps me loving you" is one of the best melodic rock songs ever. This band would have been much bigger had they have been promoted at the time.A must have for any fan of melodic hard rock music! Excellent CD I have looked everywhere for this CD and only found it on this site. I can't play it enough. It's an excellent Cd and I would recommend it to anyone that loves the late 80's and early 90's. That's when music was music. Submitted by MLCNH (NH,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Must buy this. Really great guitar work. One of the best bands of the 80"s. Wish they could have put out more albums than "XYZ" and "Hungry" before the 80"s ended. They shouldn't be lumped in with all the so called HAIR BANDS. I hate that term anyway. The band wasn't just flashy, they were very good. It's 2002 and i still play "XYZ" all the time. Just buy it. Excellent Guitarist I have been trying to find this on CD since the 80's.I have the original cassette of XYZ and it rocks.I still to this day listen to this on a regular basis. It's still one of my favorites. If you like 80's metal, you HAVE to get this. If you like this, you might want to check out two other bands,TNT and Shotgun Messiah. You wont be sorry. First release is a winner..... The first release from the band, XYZ, at first doesn't give much an impression. I recommend a second listen. Songs such as "Inside Out", "Follow the Night" and "Souvenirs" are worthy for even the least fan of hair metal. Good solid guitar work, great voice should have broken this band at least into some mainstream airplay. Yes I know, hair bands were a dime a dozen back then, and it seemed as if everyone had a release out there, but I recommend getting this one for your collection. Their follow up "Hungry" submits the same hooks, guitar work, and solid playing---not to be overlooked either. Submitted by a reviewer (Kansas City, Mo) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$15.65 Lyricist: Dave Mustaine. Personnel: Dave Mustaine (vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar, piano); Chris Broderick (guitar, acoustic guitar); James LoMenzo (bass guitar); Shawn Drover (drums, percussion); Chris Rodriguez, Chris Clancy (background vocals). Audio Mixer: Andy Sneap. Illustrator: John Lorenzi. Photographer: Ross Halfin. The release of 2009's ENDGAME brings with it a startling realization: if first-generation thrash metal fans had been polled about which of the genre's "Big Four" -- Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth -- would prove to be the most resilient and consistently prolific over the next quarter century, the only sure-fire consensus would probably have been "well, anyone but Megadeth!" | | Astra Weirding CD (2009)
XYZ
$10.69 During the late '90s, it seemed like prog rock had finally achieved extinction. But fast forward ten years later and the genre was thriving once more - as evidenced by the arrival of such groups as Astra and their 2009 full-length debut, THE WEIRDING (which includes some very Roger Dean-inspired cover artwork). Hailing from an area not exactly known for spawning prog goliaths (San Diego), THE WEIRDING is not all about fingers flyin' on the fretboard, however, as the group touches upon the spacy sounds of early Pink Floyd and King Crimson on the title track. And this same approach carries over throughout the entire album, as evidenced by such ditties as "Silent Sleep" and "Ouroboros," both of which follow the prog prerequisite of songs that stretch over ten minutes in length (and in this case, over 15 minutes). Unlike many other modern-day prog rock revivalists, Astra recalls a day when the genre was more about creating sweeping mood shifts than mere mind-numbing instrumental acrobatics. During the late '90s, it seemed like prog rock had finally ...

| | Kiss Destroyer CD (1976) Remastered
XYZ
$7.29 Kiss: Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley (vocals, guitar); Gene Simmons (vocals, bass); Peter Criss (vocals, drums). Recorded at The Record Plant, New York, New York. Includes liner notes by Robert V. Conte. Digitally remastered by Joseph M. Palmaccio at Sterling Sound, New York, New York. The pressure was on Kiss for their fifth release, and the band knew it. Their breakthrough, Alive!, was going to be hard to top, so instead of trying to recreate a concert setting in the studio, they went the opposite route. Destroyer is one of Kiss' most experimental studio albums, but also one of their strongest and most interesting. Alice Cooper/Pink Floyd producer Bob Ezrin was on hand, and he strongly encouraged the band to experiment -- there's extensive use of sound effects (the album's untitled closing track), the appearance of a boy's choir ("Great Expectations"), and an orchestra-laden, heartfelt ballad ("Beth"). But there's plenty of Kiss' heavy thunder rock to go around, such as the demonic "God of Thunder" and the sing-along anthems "Flaming Youth," "Shout It Out Loud," "King of the Night Time World," and "Detroit Rock City" (the latter a tale of a doomed concert-goer, complete with violent car-crash sound effects). But it was the aforementioned Peter Criss ballad, "Beth," that made Destroyer such a success; the song was a surprise Top Ten hit (it was originally released as a B-side to "Detroit Rock City"). Also included is a song that Nirvana would later cover ("Do You Love Me?"), as well as an ode to the pleasures of S&M, "Sweet Pain." Destroyer also marked the first time that a comic-book illustration of the band appeared on the cover, confirming that the band was transforming from hard rockers to superheroes. ~ Greg Prato Before DESTROYER, Kiss' studio albums were only moderate sellers. But the band's concerts were selling out regularly, and 1975's ALIVE! album had gone gold, putting Kiss on the pop map. DESTROYER, on which they teamed with Alice Cooper producer Bob Ezrin, was the breakthrough that finally got Kiss' grandiose rock ideas down on record. DESTROYER is a chancy, ambitious ...

The original soundtrack to DANE COOK'S TOURGASM--an HBO comedy series following the hot young comedian and his friends while on tour--contains several new short pieces from Cook and the other comedians, but it's primarily a collection of the songs that appeared in the series' six episodes. New and previously unreleased songs by Wolfmother ("Dimension"), Truepenny ("Straight To Video"), and 10 other indie and nu-metal acts are here, ranging from the Black Angels' Led Zeppelin pastiche "Bloodhounds On My Trail" to the chilly retro new wave feel of Cold Fusion's "On My Own."
