| | Lost Horizon Awakening The World CD Lost Horizon Discography of CDs
(8 Customer Reviews)
Dull metal? How can that be? Well, if you're Lost Horizon, you combine overly abused metal guitar riffs, cheesy group shouts of the chorus, and excessive breaks, such as those featured on the six-minute-long "Heart of Storm." Or take "Sworn in the Metal Wind," which continues on the band's endless use of aimless guitar leads, the same chords, and trite drum fills. Most of Lost Horizon's album Awakening the World is not radio-friendly, partly because many of the songs exceed five minutes and, quite frankly, stray. However, the disc does provide one redeeming moment on the track "Denial of Fate." It's a somewhat well-oiled number (and under five minutes) with decent song structure (the solos are within limits and well-played). This cut has the potential to be played on rock specialty shows. To his credit, lead singer Daniel Heiman's powerful voice shoots and soars up to the sky. Better lyrics, song structures, and more creative musicians would do this guy a world of good. Examples of good metal acts include Judas Priest, AC/DC and Iron Maiden, among others. The music made by these legendary bands was electrifying and directly hit listeners in the gut, leaving them dizzy and hungry for more. That said, Lost Horizon lacks direction and vision. If they ventured beyond the same rhythms and chords they abuse on Awakening the World they'd have something to talk about. Until then, the world is still sleeping. ~ Liana Jonas

This band is a jewel! Probably the best debut album I have ever heard. The music is fantastic and the production is excellent.
Power and epic metal without the double-cheese combo. If you like power and speed metal yo'll keep this CD spinning forever. If you like epic metal, you'll be in full-plate armor on your horse ready to charge before the end of the second track!
This is an absolut must have. Submitted by a reviewer (Nashville, TN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A standout metal release Lost Horizon is a new Scandinavian band with a style midway between metal pioneers like Rainbow and contemporary European power metal. This, their first CD, is an exceptionally fine release. The band has a great sense of melody, as well as the ability to play rousing power chords. The vocals are reminiscent of Judas Priest. The guitar technique is also extremely good -- harmonic minor runs in between sledgehammer riffs. There is no weak material on this CD -- it's a real standout. $13.15 PRESS RELEASEEPIGENE SHINES THROUGH WITH POPULAR DISSENTAny music fan is familiar with the city of Seattle for its leadership role in the explosion of grunge and punk in the early 90's. Since then, the Emerald City has thrived on its musical reputation, but has now given rise to a band as innovative as the alternative rock movement, itself. Epigene, formed by founder and singer/songwriter Sean Bigler, is a marriage of the social awareness of modern rock with the musical originality and depth of bands like the Police and XTC. With their catchy but intelligent songs, Epigene has already gained a formidable fan base in the Seattle area, filling clubs and embedding themselves in the music industry with their 2001 release, One Bright Sign. Now Epigene is launching a new album, Popular Dissent, that boasts an even more dynamic sound and focused musical approach than their celebrated first CD, and will ride their own creative wave all the way to the pinnacle of modern rock. This powerful second release will undoubtedly reinforce Epigene's drive to the forefront of music.Popular Dissent starts with high-energy icebreaker The New Voltaire, a social outcry with a steady drive and the powerful vocals of Bigler, reminiscent of an early Sting. Boasting not only a powerful message, but a magnetic groove, as well, The New Voltaire connects with any listener, a perfect opener for Epigene's fiery new album. ...

$13.15 I grew up in the steel-mill town of Mingo Junction, Ohio. My parents were Italian Immigrants and my Dad worked in the mill. I learned about music through listening to a.m. radio and the times we went to the Country Music Jamboree in Wheeling, W.Va., near my home on The Ohio River. The first concert I saw was Kitty Wells, I never knew what a “honky-tonk angel” was but I loved her voice. My parents grew large vegetable gardens and an orchard, and made their own wine. As a kid, it was a place for idle summers and sandlot baseball, but as I grew older, it became a place to leave. I worked summers in the steel mill and went away to college, first to Ohio State University in Columbus, and then to Washington State University in Pullman. I got a degree in Environmental Science but I knew I always wanted to be a musician so I left the forests behind me and moved to New York City. Upon my arrival in New York, the first place I headed to was the Cornelia Street Cafe. Every Monday night in this Greenwich Village Cafe a songwriter exchange was held where you could only perform a new song. In the audience and on stage were some of New York's best songwriters of the new folk scene: Suzanne Vega, The Roches, Mark Johnson, Steve Forbert, etc. To get up in that small cafe was intimidating, but the exhilaration of playing is what kept me going. It was during this time that I published my first song, “Big Sister” that went to #11 on the Canadian charts and recorded a song for The Cornelia Street Songwriters Exchange album. Eventually the scene changed and I felt like I needed a to make a move. In 1990 I came to Austin, Texas with everything that would fit in the back of my Volkswagen Rabbit, which was mostly my guitars. While in New York, a reviewer in ...

Having learned to play guitar in Chile, he was heavily influenced in the traditional forms of Latin American rhythms. Once in Canada, he began to incorporate the influences of Rock & Blues into his music although always reverting back to the fundamental roots of what is Latin Music. It would be in 1994 that Esteban releases his first album titled “Vientos de Sur”. Combining his Andean roots he forges melodies that incorporate pan flutes, bombo, kena and guitar. At the age of 15, another style captured his imagination. Jazz was instrumental in teaching Figueroa the intricacies ...
