Recorded live at The Comedy Act Theater, Los Angeles and The Comedy Crunch, Long Beach, California. Includes liner notes by Steve McKeever.
A stand-up comedy album from actor/comedian Robin Harris, this is notable for stuffing 74 minutes onto a single disc. Unfortunately, like a lot of stand-up comedy, it relies too heavily on four-letter words, rapid-fire attack patter and, I would venture to guess, visual cues during the performance. The result is that a lot of the really funny and biting material is absent from the recording -- this would actually work a whole lot better on videotape, where the comedy can be projected by the performer. Harris works hard and puts across the ethnic impressions (mostly oriented to Chicago and New York) very well indeed, and he sounds great. Unfortunately, without the visual cues to go by, much of the comedy here falls flat. ~ Steven McDonald Robin Harris Be-Be's Kids Songs Be-Be's Kids Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews the begining of Be-be's kids In my opinion I,think that this cd is the funniest of them all. Before Martin ,Cedric the Entertainment,Bernie Mac,and Chris Rock, there was Robin Harris. If you want a good gut-buster,I highly recommend this CD! Be-Be's Kids
$15.19 Ben Johnson and Harrison Alley met at Sonic in January of 2009 to discuss the finer things of life. Among these were life, liberty, and the possibility of making an album together. The odds were against them. They were young (17 and 17), inexperienced (17 and 17), and unusually talented. After finding no free studio space, they embarked on an epic quest to record, live, in Harrison Alley's bedroom. After clocking in approximately 175 hours of work on the album, they completed A New Brand Of Colour. Here's a word on each track:*() denote type of song*musician and instrument listed in order of appearance Love Will Help Us Through - This track was written primarily by Ben Johnson. He performed this song on his Roland Fantom X8 Keyboard. The Prospects particularly enjoy the soundtrackesque feel of this track. (ambient/electronic)Ben Johnson - ambiance on keyboard Where Are You? - As the first song The Prospects played live, this track also features a cameo from female vocalist Jennifer Keith. Some friends of The Prospects believe this will be the most popular track. However, these "friends" have heard only this song. Where Are You? closes with an ambient, if not a bit strange, guitar riff. This riff, performed by Harrison Alley in reverse chord order, was digitally reversed to achieve the original chord progression in its current glory. (soft piano ballad) Ben Johnson - piano on keyboard, vocalsJennifer Keith - vocalsHarrison Alley - guitar Tomorrow - The Prospects' favorite part of this track is its simple power of the organ. The lyrics refer to uncertainty in love and caution in dealing with others as well as yourself. (simple organ rock)Ben Johnson - organ on keyboard, vocalsBonner - This song was created for Bonner Briggs. In her honor, we have created this techno track. This song also features the audio footage of The Prospects' encounter with Dualtone Music Group in which friend of The Prospects, Vincent Weir, successfully smuggled a demo CD into the famous hands of Lori Kampa. None of the demo tracks are on A New Brand Of Colour. (dance/techno)Ben Johnson - piano on keyboard, organ on keyboard, strings on keyboard, synth on keyboard, vocalsHarrison Alley - digital drums, vocals 2 / 14 / 09 - In the spirit of Death Cab For Cutie, the lyrics narrate a real-life scenario in music form.
