1936-1947 album
$8.45 New Orleans trombone man Kid Ory had already made a sizeable contribution to musical history before he dropped out of the game in the 1930s. Although he basically wrote the rulebook on the use of trombone in a jazz context, he might have slipped off the radar of history if he hadn't made a stunning comeback in the '40s. Thankfully, Ory recorded prolifically throughout the '40s and '50s, and these mid-'50s sessions find him in excellent form. The fare is sprightly old-school New Orleans jazz, sprinkled with ragtime and Dixieland flavors, with Ory's tailgate trombone leading the way.
Interestingly, the personnel ...

$9.35 Many millenia have passed since the scribing of the Books of Rockage. Few have read the words on the yellowed, wise pages contained therein. Those who have read the words, or heard the teachings of the great prophet Hoo-Ha the Mighty know the Prophecy:"...Yea, verily there shall cometh a band. Not a band in threes and fours and fives, with many stringed, high-pitch-ed weedlings. Nay, this band shall beith but two. They shall come bearing the powers of the gods of Rockage; the rig of the Gods +5, the sweatbands of infinite Rockage +3. Their instruments shall be the bass, and the drum, and they shall rock upon these instruments with infinite fury and passion. Their music shall have no words, yet - forsooth - it shall resound in the hearts and minds of those who hear with a clarity likened unto something exceedingly clear... and rocking."These two champions of rock shall draw together the lost fragments of the Tartaron, uniting the scattered artifacts of Egaroth, and shall rebuild the lost city of Felbazel. Verily, these mighty heroes shall travel the land, seekething and rockething for the good of every being. Their bass frequencies and deafening China-crashings shall be the vanguard for an era of peace and rocking, ne'er afore seenin this world. We shall know them by their name. For they shall ...
| | Susan Solomon Edge Of A Vision CD (2006)
1936-1947 music CDs
$16.45 When I first met Susan Solomon, she was playing at the Café Du Nord in San Francisco, with her band, Unsung Heroes. At the moment I began to realize there was something special about her, she was playing ‘Into the Future,’ a bouquet of jazzy rock. As I was recovering from the dreamy state I had slipped into while listening to ‘Into the Future,’ the band, led by Solomon, segued into ‘Get Away,’ and I was startled to realize she was now singing something akin to the purist Southern Rock. Was she singing a bit like Petty? I did not know then that Susan had grown up on the same street with Petty in Gatorland, and had every right to sound like a Southern rocker. What I did hear, in songs such as ‘Into the Future’ and ‘Shadow’ was a seductive message that reminded me of Joni Mitchell at one moment, and then, in ‘Get Away’ and ‘Follow Your Heart,’ a worldly even masculine challenge the next. 'Follow Your Heart' was the last, unforgetable song ...
