Mean Machine album
$6.49 As the drums kick into the fierce opener "Tarot Woman," it's obvious that RISING delivers directly to your door. It is the band's second release, and a vast improvement over RICHIE BLACKMORE'S RAINBOW. With a revamped lineup that sounds like it had been touring together for years, the album takes no prisoners. "Starstruck" is a classic groove reminiscent of guitarist Blackmore's ex-band Deep Purple. Blackmore replaced everyone from the first album's lineup except vocalist Ronnie Dio with Jimmy Bain (bass), Tony Carey (keyboards), and Cozy Powell (drums). Dio shows what he's got with a stellar performance on "Do You Close Your Eyes." "Stargazer" is the band's "Kashmir," an epic eight-minute track that could stand ...

| | Accept Balls To The Wall CD (1984) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Mean Machine songs
$6.75 Digitally remastered by Joseph M. Palmaccio (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York).
With their 1984 release, the pleasantly titled BALLS TO THE WALL, German metallists Accept set their sights on the last frontier the band had yet to conquer--America. Like their contemporaries the Scorpions, who also specialized in hard rock and hailed from Germany, Accept started out as a straight up heavy metal band, but as the '80s wore on, softened their high volume sound with a dose of melody.
While BALLS TO THE WALL introduced Accept to whole new legion of fans stateside, it wasn't the huge US smash they'd hoped for. Still, BALLS remains one of Accept's best releases, spawning the dark yet anthemic title track, as well as the screamalong ditties "London Leatherboys" and "Love Child."
Accept's most notorious album, Balls to the Wall was also their biggest commercial success. Following hot upon the heels of their creative breakthrough, Restless and Wild, you'd also be hard pressed to find a more sexually charged record in any musical genre. Its hysterically nonsensical lyrics notwithstanding, the legendary title track remains an irresistible, fist-pumping masterpiece that came to epitomize the modern, slow-marching metal anthem as it became known. And when paired with second single "London Leatherboys," it arguably constitutes the most blatantly homoerotic couplet ...
| | VH1 Presents The Corrs: Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Mean Machine album
$6.19 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish folk medley "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath" which arguably features more full-on Irishness than ...
| | U D O Man And Machine CD (2002) (Import) Germany
Mean Machine CD music
$16.49 U.D.O. is the first name of the lead singer of this outfit. Udo Dirkschneider is best known for his work with the metal band Accept and presents here a solo album featuring a band composed of himself, Igor Gianola, Stefan Kaufman, Fitty Weinhold, and Lorenzo Milani. The album certainly rocks out with the best of them and showcases Dirkschneider's unique vocal style. That vocal style is part of the problem with the album, though, as it really can take some getting used to. The other shortcoming here is that the band seems not to do such a good job on mellower material. They should stick to the harder-edged songs. Interestingly enough, when the group chooses to rock out, which is most of the time, the style is often far more in the vein of '80s Judas Priest than Accept. On that mellower side, there is one true ...
| | Michael Schenker Group CD (1980) Remastered
Mean Machine music CDs
$9.29 This reissue of rocker Michael Schenker Group's 1981 release MSG is digitally remastered and features the tracks "Armed And Ready" and "Cry For The Nations."
After his lengthy stints with the Scorpions and UFO, Michael Schenker could be forgiven for indulging his incendiary fretboard skills throughout the entirety of this 1980 solo debut. Instead, it's a solid group effort that has aged surprisingly well, with Schenker artfully deploying his talents on full-bodied hard rock outings such as the opening "Armed and Ready" and the riff-heavy "Victim of Illusion." Vocalist Gary Barden proves himself more than able to withstand Schenker's pyrotechnics, while the whole enterprise is propelled by the remarkable percussive dexterity of the veteran British drummer Simon Phillips.
UK remastered pressing of the 1980 self titled debut album. EMI. 2006.
Recorded in 1980. Includes liner notes by Jerry Ewing.
Recorded at Air Studios, London, England and Air Montserrat, West Indies.
