| | Blackmore's Night Under A Violet Moon CD (1999) (Import) Japan
Falconer music CDs
$37.99 Blackmore's Night features the talents of guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and vocalist Candice Night. Blackmore is best known for his work with the rock band Rainbow, and before that, the legendary group Deep Purple. However he has long since been interested in medieval and Renaissance music.
On UNDER A VIOLET MOON, Blackmore and Night blend together acoustic pop with English medieval music. To add an air of authenticity, they employ such instruments as a hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, pennywhistles, and vintage tambourines. However, Blackmore's guitar is the backbone of this music, and he accompanies Night with unerring sensitivity. Night sings in a relaxed mezzo-soprano on each piece. Most of all, listeners will enjoy following the lyrics, since each tune is centered on an exciting medieval tale. Highlights include the war song "March the Heroes Home," the wistful "Castles and Dreams," and the forlorn "Catherine Howard's Fate." On the latter, Night sings of heartbreak, betrayal, and lovesickness. Even though this melody is antiquated, and the lyric is sung in Middle English, this story is wholly universal. UNDER A VIOLET MOON is the perfect album for those who wish to dabble in light, non-academic period music.

Falconer songs
$17.95 With LEADERS NOT FOLLOWERS, metal/hardcore heavyweight outfit Napalm Death joins the ranks of Slayer and Metallica in releasing an EP of cover songs, taking this premise in an even more extreme direction. While Metallica brought songs by bands such as Budgie and Killing Joke to a metal mainstream audience, Napalm Death pays tribute to underground hardcore, grindcore, metal, and punk acts, some of which saw the legendary tape trading phenomenon of the '80s as their only means of distribution.
LEADERS NOT FOLLOWERS spans the globe in its nostalgic trek, from Italy's Raw Power, through Toronto's Slaughter (not to be confused with the hair metal band of the same name), to little-known Pentagram from Chile. The centerpiece of the set is "Nazi Punks Fuck Off, " by the Dead Kennedys, re-recorded especially for this essential collection.
1999 EP from the Godfathers of Grindcore, their first release for the Dream Catcher. Contains six tracks, all covers of classic punk & rock classics by the likes of Dead Kennedys (including 'Nazi Punks Fuck Off'), ...

Masterful Medieval Metal Based on sound samples here and at CDNow, I ordered all three of Falconer's CDs on a whim from CDUNiverse and must say that I'm quite glad I did. All three are great, but the debut CD is by far the best of the the flock. These guys have a sound and attitude that immediately sets them apart from the D&D-Dungeonmasters-with-guitars sound of so many others in the swords-and-sorcery metal genre. The lyrics are delivered with an authority and seriousness that makes you almost believe these guys are channeling the long-dead spirits of of the past. Most of all, these guys committed some fantastic guitar sounds to tape. Big, beefy, ballsy, and unprocessed. Symphonically inclined melodic metal practicioners could learn a lot from the spare production techniques of this disc. For fans of the genre-- and for students of truly great hard rock/metal guitar tone-- I can't recommend this CD highly enough. Submitted by Timothy Truman (Lancaster, Pa) Was This Review Helpful? The Power Of "FALCONER"! This band rips and tears through this CD! Excellent musically! The singer is excellent but I wish he would put more of the rougher side of emotion into his singing. Submitted by robert.whitney3 (Lancaster, PA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
