BARRIO BRAVO was nominated for the 2002 Latin Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Tropical Album.
In 2001 Barrio Bravo became one of the most exciting alternative records in the Latin scene, comprising Celso Piña's well-known combination of Colombian Cumbia, vallenato, and Mexican traditional rhythms. In addition, the talented accordionist recorded with urban and Latin rock numbers such as Café Tacuba, El Gran Silencio, Santa Sabina, and Resorte, among others, achieving an interesting work to celebrate Celso Piña's 20th career anniversary. This was anticipated with the hit single "Cumbia Sobre El Rio," performed by himself, Control Machete's Pato, and Blanquito Man from King Changó. ~ Drago Bonacich
