Regardless of how much credit you give Slim Jim Phantom and Lee Rocker for the Stray Cats' conception, this is probably the closest thing to a new Stray Cats album as you'll ever see again. It's the first time since that band broke up that Brian Setzer has ventured into guitar-bass-drums rockabilly trio format. One major difference between this group--whose name comes from a legendary televised Elvis Presley concert--and the Cats is the extent to which Setzer's guitar is featured. On song after song he peels off blistering licks with a sharpness that puts him in a league with any other rock & roll guitarist you can name.
Most of the tunes here are jumping rockabilly numbers that will bring a shiver of delight to nostalgic Stray Cats fans. On "5 Years, 4 Months, 3 Days," Setzer even employs a narrative approach that compares admirably to Dave Alvin's work with the Blasters. The only times the album falters are when Setzer tries to stretch the mold too far, as on the introspective "'59" or the faux-Mexican "Santa Rosa Rita." But those gaffes are quickly forgotten in the face of chargers like "Who Could Love This Car But Me" (co-written with none other than Joe Strummer) and the punchy "Get 'Em on the Ropes," which achieves an admirable synthesis of Carl Perkins, the Ramones, and NRBQ (kids, don't try this at home).

Like any great alcohol BRIAN SETZER gets better with age. This cd contains some of his best work, rockabilly lives on.

Having been a fan of Brian Setzer and his Orchestra music and also the Stray Cats, I felt I couldn't go wrong with this release. I was never more RIGHT! I listen to this music over and over. Guitar work is phenomenal. Pure and simple. Brian has gotten me so interested in Rockabilly guitar and even surf guitar sounds, I am investigating other artists that probably influenced him. Get this CD now! (Also Nitro Burnin Funny Daddy!)

I don't have to say alot about this CD. It is awesome,awesome,awesome!! I feel like I'm listening to the Stray Cats all over again, only it is new material. Brian's guitar work is simply amazing. If you are a fan buy it now.

I'm a long time fan of The Stray Cats. I have been most impressed with Brian Stezer's work with the swing style of big band. It is great to have him come back to his roots with "Ignition". His guitar work is phenominal. The songs are well produced, and I can't help but imagine what it would be like to play the guitar like that. This cd is a must have for any collection. Buy it..... when you're finished reading this review....buy this cd!!!! You will not be disappointed.

Just picked up the newest Brian Setzer CD "IGNITION" and I have to say it's great to hear him back doing what he does best, ROCKABILLY ! The music is stripped down to the basics and sounds like vintage Stray Cats. So,if you're a fan of the Cats, or just love good Rockabilly, you'll love this new one by Setzer. Just wait until you hear the guitar work !

In retrospect, Setzer might seem like a prognosticator, what with the runaway success of neo-swing in the late '90s.
