Not to overdo The Left Banke comparison, but any fan of that group will enjoy this a lot as well, as it has a similar fusion of pure pop hooks, imaginative baroque orchestration, and fragile romantic songwriting. The David have more of a rock drive, however, are more apt to employ period psychedelic flourishes (such as the wobbling distorted guitar riffs on "Mirrors of Wood"), and take on more whimsical, less personal lyrical concerns. The beautiful, suite-like title cut, the organ-powered "Sweet December," and "Now to You" are highlights. A 2001 CD reissue on Jamie adds a couple of previously unreleased songs. ~ Richie Unterberger
The cult following for this California-based psychedelic band will be thrilled to have a remastered, remixed version of one of their favorite albums. It includes two never before released bonus tracks.
Digitally remastered by Greg Vaughn and Tom Moulton.
Recorded at Sound Recorders, Hollywood and American Recording Co, Studio City, California in 1967. Includes liner notes by Steve Kolanjian and Warren Hansen.
The David: Warren Hansen (vocals, organ); Mark Bird (guitar); Chuck Spieth (bass); Tim Harrison (drums).

Another Day, Another Lifetime Music Review
Average Rating: (3.5 out of 5 stars) Brings back memories I was a member of the David during the entire time the band was together. I was surprised to see the music re-issued as other than the original test pressing in vinyl, which I still have, I have not seen it available for sale before. I left the rating at 3 stars as it seemed inappropriate to do anything else.
Preparations for these sessions took place over several weeks and the recording took a couple of weeks for the original album.
The two add on songs, "I Don't Care" and "Mister You're a Better Man" were done later and I believe never issued.
We did a single before these recordings with 20th Century Fox Records back when they were trying to break into the rock market. I believe the A track was "Forty Miles" and the B was something like, "People Saying" although not sure. That track included sitar, which many were using then. Forty Miles, which was about the distance it took for Warren Hansen to travel to see his then girlfriend, had a nice guitar solo which I did with a very early "fuzz tone" device and lots of echo. I don't believe that any copies of that single are available except perhaps in the 20th Century archives if at all. That is a shame because of everything we recorded that was my favorite.

WOW what a improvement I had bought one years ago, it was terrible. This CD is a excellent remaster. After all I'm the only I know that bought it as a record. Great 60's music, they were ahead of their time... Submitted by tjcocks (Lawrenceburg In. USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
