Best Of Bobby Day album
$10.85 I'm New Here is a shock. It's a wallop filled with big nasty beats, a wide range of sonic atmospheres, and more -- sometimes unintentional -- autobiographical intimacy than we've heard from Gil Scott-Heron than ever before. Produced by XL Recordings head Richard Russell, I'm New Here is his first record in 16 years. It is a scant 28 minutes and doesn't need to be a second longer. It's unlike anything he's previously recorded, though there is metaphoric precedence in his earliest, largely spoken word albums. Its production pushes forcefully at the margins, and Scott-Heron embraces it without a hint of nostalgia. It opens with "On Coming from a Broken Home," the first of a two-part poem that bookends the album. Over a piano and a sampled string loop (from Kanye West's "Flashing Lights"), he reflects on his upbringing ...
| | Alicia Keys Element Of Freedom CD (2009)
Best Of Bobby Day CD music
$13.49 Don't mistake the presence of Jay-Z and Beyoncé on Alicia Keys' fourth album as evidence that the singer/songwriter is burrowing into modern R&B -- take it instead as evidence of the rarefied company Keys keeps, her status as a superstar so solidified that the only cameos possible are R&B/hip-hop elite. Superstars are often given leeway to do anything they want, and so it is on The Element of Freedom, where Keys dials back the outward expansion of As I Am and turns inward, creating a clean, small-scale collection of ballads and Prince-inspired pop. Always apparent on Alicia's albums, that Prince influence is underscored ...

| | Eminem Marshall Mathers LP CD (2000)
Best Of Bobby Day CD music
$10.45 THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. "The Real Slim Shady" won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance. THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Album Of The Year.
A Caucasian rapper from Detroit, a Dr. Dre disciple with bright blonde hair--at first glance, Eminem seemed the unlikeliest of hip-hop stars. However, his debut, THE SLIM SHADY LP, contained clever rhymes and even the occasional innovation. His sophomore effort, THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP, proved that Eminem was no fluke, but instead a legitimate rap visionary.
While his horror/shock rap can be unsettling, it's ...

| | Supertramp Slow Motion CD (2002)
Best Of Bobby Day songs
$23.35 Though they reached their peak of popularity in the late 70s, Supertramp kept producing quality jazzed-up pop/rock. This 2002 album, their first after a five year hiatus, features "Tenth Avenue Breakdown," "Little By Little," "Broken Hearted," and the haunting title cut.
Supertramp struggled after the departure of Roger Hodgson to be seen as a viable, creative band and prove that it could exist without Hodgson. Although the albums released after Hodgson's departure were interesting, they never managed to capture the glory days of that classic lineup, nor did they reach commercial popularity. That is not to say the releases ...
