Remaster lacks clarity; probably slammed with limiter
I was hoping, coming from a small label, that this remaster would not have followed the modern trend towards over-limiting. Yet it seems that the Loudness Wars prevalent in the industry affected this re-release, as there is less clarity and a diminished dynamic range than with the earlier CD releases.
This also affects Black Sea and English Settlement, which I bought at gthe same time, robbing the energy and dynamism of key tracks.
The track order and CD contents are greatly improved, at least.

British pop at its best
XTC made some of the most irresistable, catchiest pop music in history. Get this album and the follow up Black Sea and you'll see what I mean. My personal favorites are Making Plans For Nigel(the song that made me a fan back in '79), Life Begins At The Hop, Reel By Reel (features a great guitar solo), and Scissor Man. But there are no duds on the album, all the songs are great.

I wish CD Universe would add a few more stars..
Yeah! 5 stars! Actually I give it about 7 or 8 stars but this review page limits me. I can't say anything bad about Drums and Wires except that I wouldn't mind if it had been about 30 minutes longer. You know how you sometimes buy music you really flip over and after a few years (or months) it doesn't really XCite you anymore? We'll I've had Drums and Wires since 1979 when it was released and it still sound new, XCiting and fresh every time!!! This one can't be compared to anything else past or present. It stands alone! It's like fine wine, it gets better with age. GET IT!!! or suffer forever!
