EAST TENNESSEE CHRISTMAS has a distinctly warm and serene ambiance. Chet Atkins' smooth guitar sound and lyrical touch--together with the silken voices of a (mostly) female choir and the lush outline of a string orchestra--make this an out of ... Full Descriptionthe ordinary release.
Atkins and company take such Yuletide classics as "White Christmas," "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen," and give them a well-defined, yet subtle country feel. Tranquil and relaxing, this set of Christmas songs captures the spirit of the season on all 12 tracks. EAST TENNESSEE CHRISTMAS proves that a country twang can be just as festive as more traditional approaches to Christmas music. | | Christmas With Chet Atkins CD (1961)
East Tennessee Christmas CD music
$11.39 Chet Atkins' renditions of these beloved Christmas standards invoke the spirit of the season. He celebrates life, and Christmas, in styles by turns jazzy, (Western) swinging, and classical.
For many of the traditional Christmas songs, such as "O Come All Ye Faithful" and the medley, "The Coventry Carol/God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen," Atkins plays a nylon-stringed acoustic guitar in a classical vein. On the other hand, on Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" and "Jingle Bell Rock," Atkins performs using the country swing style for which he is so well known. In whatever style he plays, with the subtle accompaniment of the Anita Kerr singers Chet Atkins captures the essence of Christmas with every note.
Originally released on RCA (2423).

| | Alexis Korner Kornerstoned: Anthology 1958-1983 CD (2004) (Import) United Kingdom
East Tennessee Christmas CD music
$25.19 While MUSICALLY RICH...AND FAMOUS documents the second half of British blues godfather Alexis Korner's career, KORNERSTONED adopts a more comprehensive approach, following the pioneering singer/guitarist from the very beginning of his musical life, all the way through every subsequent phase of his development. So we get not only his mid-1960s work with burgeoning blues-rock giants like Paul Rodgers and Steve Marriott, but also his `50s skiffle recordings (basically the British version of jug-band music) with the Ken Colyer band and his own skiffle group, and even an early acoustic guitar duel with famed fingerpicker Davey Graham on "3/4 A.D." Over the course of its two discs, this collection examines pretty much every aspect of this seminal bandleader's historic career.
Gravel-voiced Alexis Korner is arguably the most important figure in the history of British blues - the inspiration for several generations of star musicians, from The Rolling Stones to Led Zeppelin & beyond. This first-ever full-career retrospective spans everything from mid-50s skiffle to his final blues outings, via groundbreaking 60s R&B & his pop hits with CCs in the 70s. Two CD set. Castle. 2005.
