(6 Customer Reviews)
Originally released in 2000, A NEW DAY YESTERDAY marks the solo studio debut of blues singer/guitarist Joe Bonamassa. Only in his early 20s at the time of the album's recording, Bonamassa performs in a rough-and-tumble style that belies his relatively young age, as heard on both originals (the soulful "Current Situation") and a fine selection of covers (a fiery version of the Jethro Tull title track).
Recorded at Pyramid Recording Studios, Ithaca, New York.

This man is hot! Joe Bonamassa is one of the best guitar players I've ever heard, and I've listened to a lot of blues. The more I play the CD, the more I like it. His playing is diverse and voice sultry. If I had to drive all day, I wouldn't miss an opportunity to see him live. Submitted by Debra R. (Gainesville, Florida) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

New Day Yesterday album
$13.85 Despite his statement in the liner notes that "In an era where it is best to play it safe, I chose to take a risk...," there isn't much surprising or risky about young guitarist Joe Bonamassa's fifth studio album. Most of his previous releases have mixed blues covers with his own originals, all played with a rocker's attitude, volume and less-than-subtle approach. This one follows suit and even though he goes on to say that he "wanted to make a blues album, not a rock album that has blues on it," as in the past; it's impossible to claim that he has succeeded with You & Me. That doesn't make this a bad or disappointing disc; quite the contrary, it's a solid blues-rock release and arguably his best work to date. But as early as the second ...

| | Jimmy Thackery Trouble Man CD (1994)
New Day Yesterday music CDs
$13.45 All songs written or co-written by James Thackery except "Bullfrog" (Harris), "Mercury Blues" (K.C. Douglas) and "Don't Lose Your Cool" (Albert Collins).
Trouble Man is a hard-driving blues-rock album, with more emphasis on the "rock" than Thackery's other releases. It slows down just long enough for the slightly dark "Lovin' You Right" and the jazzy "Anchor to a Drowning Man," arguably the best cut here. "Doin' 100" and the instrumental "Hang Up and Drive" have a strong Stevie Ray Vaughan sound. Thackery applies a steady, yet light-hearted and uptempo pace to William Harris' "Bullfrog," which has also been covered by the likes of Dave Hole and John Hammond. The K.C. Douglas cover "Mercury Blues" has been recorded by everyone from Steve Miller to Alan Jackson (remember the "Crazy 'bout a Ford truck" ...
| | Big Country Bluegrass CD (2005)
New Day Yesterday songs
$16.45 This is the music that I describe as “Galax” or “Mt. Airy” bluegrass - the sound and style that evoke memories of Ted Lundy, Larry Richardson, Roy McMillan, Joe Edd King, Joe Greene and countless others. The rhythm and timing are solid, the instrumental work is clean and tasteful, and the vocals are heartfelt. The music is hard-edged with a live flavor, not honed to perfection by repeated takes and overdubs. Big Country Bluegrass is in the forefront in keeping authentic, traditional bluegrass alive.Kerry Hay ...

UP! marks Shania Twain's emergence from a five-year hiatus that found her absconding to Switzerland and having a child with husband/producer/collaborator Robert "Mutt" Lange. As ever, Twain continues to be the master of the pop crossover. This time around, she takes 19 songs presents two different versions of each, divided between a pair of discs. CD 1 (the "Red CD") features more rock-flavored versions as opposed to CD2 (the "Green CD"), which includes considerably more pedal steel guitar et al.
Regardless of the genre, Twain and Lange continue to make a formidable pop-writing team. The two manage to craft catchy cuts on topics ranging from mundane situations in a relationship like who's behind the wheel (the sassy "In My Car [I'll Be The Driver]") to weightier fare like rampant materialism (a mechanized "Ka-Ching!") and female empowerment (the soaring "She's Not Just A Pretty Face"). Otherwise, Twain tills the fertile nuances of romance via convincing balladry that ...

$33.59 Josh Rouse's follow-up to his critically acclaimed album 1972 ventures still deeper into the territory of mellow, nostalgia-tinged '70s FM radio, and this time the results are a little less Philly soul and a little more Laurel Canyon. The gently lilting "Winter in the Hamptons" ...
