(29 Customer Reviews)
Disc 3 is an Enhanced CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
Progressive metal heroes Dream Theater forge ahead, unmatched in popularity and success in their chosen niche. The Long Islanders marked the final show of their 2000 tour by pulling out every trick from their collective hats, which included elaborate staging (a la Queensryche's MINDCRIME) and pushed the limits even further with a frock-clad gospel choir. As multiple cameras and sound recording gear were engaged, the historic August night was captured for fans on the three CD's that make up LIVE SCENES FROM NEW YORK.
The band tears through a nearly flawless version of their epic "Metropolis Part 2" concept piece that stands impressively on its own merit. Treating their adoring fans, the quintet presses on with a collection of older material, highlighted by the back-and-forth medley of "Caught in A New Millennium." Practically topping themselves with each set, DT triumphantly encore with a stunning performance of their suite, "A Change of Seasons." From a performance perspective, James LaBrie had improved by leaps and bounds as a live vocalist, and keyboard wizard Jordan Rudess levels the super-technical playing field deftly. Closing the curtain on the '90s era of the group, LIVE SCENES foreshadows a seemingly limitless future for Dream Theater.

Almost perfect ! ! ! I am a musician for about 15 years and I believe that this new piece of work from Dream Theater gives all the live power of this group.I believe that they will have more great appearances in the future where their budget will be much bigger. They play perfect as the great VHS I show before 2 months but there are some parts from the studio with no doubt. But tell me something.Which band don't make illustration produces in the studio?Noone.I believe that the average level in Finally free and the different end of this song makes me believe that they made some shortcuts on the studio and played again.I am a great fan of Dream Theater and I am at the official fan club.I listen to their music since 1993 so I believe that I can have an opinion about their great beyond my words Live.Passion on stage,Great Feeling, unbelievable progressive sessions, and great lyrics are some of their abilities LIVE.A must for all the fans and a great retrospective for some people that would like to have something from Dream Theater. One of the Best Live Albums Ever As a music collector I would say that I have all the great Live Rock albums around, you know what I am talking about, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, UFO etc.etc..
So after listening to Live Scenes From N.Y. I was totally knocked out, I have the Video of the show but what you are getting in this 3CD set is the whole concert. We kick of with the complete Metropolis 2000 album, perfect - note for note, this is a great album and performed live it sounds even better, one of the high points was the John & Teressa solo spot, great guitar playing with soaring vocals. Once the Metropolis set is finished we are treated to a back catalogue with classics that include
Met Pt1, Another Day, The Silent Man and in its entirety, A Change Of Seasons. On the 3rd CD there is a CD-Rom set, a nice touch, with Another Day and a Jordan Rudess keyboard solo + links to the web site.
What we have are a professional band of musicians performing at their peak. I have my ticket bought to see them in London next year, judgeing by this Live performance it is a taster of what is to come.
So as I stated I have all the classic Rock Albums and this one goes straight to the Top. Submitted by a reviewer (Belfast, N.Ireland.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
