Very Best Of Brand Nubian album
$13.05 This is the defining album of East Coast crime rap, which was largely established by the Brooklyn-based Boot Camp Clik of MCs. ENTA DA STAGE is a classic in its genre, featuring deep-in-the-crates beats by DJ Evil Dee (who continues to have a presence in New York's underground hip-hop scene), lurid street imagery delivered by MCs Buckshot and 5T and a flavor forever reminiscent of early-'90s New York.
As much a social phenomenon as a congregation of MCs and DJs, the Boot Camp Clik spawned Smif-N-Wesson (who later changed their name to Cocoa Brovaz after the arms manufacturer commenced litigation), Heltah Skeltah and the Originoo Gunn Clappaz. ENTA DA STAGE contains the classics "Who's Got Da Props?", "How Many MC'są," "Buck Em Down," (a perfect example of Black Moon's fondness for choosing jazzy loops as the foundations for epic tales of criminal adventurism, a style perfected on "Shit iz Real") and the contagious "I Got Cha Opin." Buckshot and 5T's delivery styles are somewhat monotonous compared to rappers who came after them and might best be described as "blunted," ...
| | Great Adventures Of Slick Rick CD (1988)
Very Best Of Brand Nubian CD music
$7.69 In the history of rap music, there are few artists who can be labeled as pioneers. One such artist is Slick Rick who, along with partner Doug E. Fresh, is the rapper responsible for such long-standing hip-hop classics as "The Show" and "La Di Da Di." With the special rhythmic flow of his accented vocals (he was born and raised in England) and powerful, innovative production, THE GREAT ADVENTURES OF SLICK RICK further led Rick Walters down the road of quick, massive fame and sealed his reputation as a master MC.
At the time of this solo debut, Slick Rick's personalized style was ground-breaking. The first single, "Children's Story," crowned Rick the king of rap's storytellers. He was able to turn the truthful pain and hardships of his community into entertaining tales that opened the eyes of the industry, and gave hip-hop a new thematic avenue. With the exception of LL Cool J's "I Need Love," Rick's "Teenage Love" was rap's most popular slow jam, dealing realistically with troubles of the heart experienced by most inner-city youngsters. Taking on the role of various characters--particularly, The Ruler and MC Ricky D--Slick Rick also began the role-playing, playwright style of rap music that is continuously used by any number of ...

Very Best Of Brand Nubian music CDs
$12.25 As even the title states, STRICTLY BUSINESS is a no-nonsense mission statement from EPMD ("Eric and Parrish Makin' Dollars"), a straightforward, seamlessly produced piece of rap history. As the title track makes clear, STRICTLY BUSINESS was all about setting the standard for rap's burgeoning pop dominance. Eric's laid back vocals contrast his partner's more staccato delivery. Together the team contributed much to pop culture by way of this album--"The Steve Martin" is a self-explanatory dance lesson, while the tight groove of "You Gots To Chill" enjoyed a respectable tenure in the ...
| | Very Best Of Big Daddy Kane CD (2001)
Very Best Of Brand Nubian songs
$13.95 Digitally remastered by Dan Hersch and Bill Inglot (Digiprep).
One of the key artists of the late-1980s New York City hip-hop scene, Big Daddy Kane won over a considerable audience with his first two albums, LONG LIVE THE KANE and IT'S A BIG DADDY THING. This well-selected collection draws heavily from those records, giving listeners a potent dose of Kane's smooth, ladies'-man persona on tracks such as the cool, confident "Ain't No Half Steppin'" and the frenetic "I Get the Job Done." Particularly for those who don't own those discs, this is the perfect overview of some of the Big Daddy's finest moments.

Very Best Of Brand Nubian music CDs
$13.85 A separate duo even when their group Jodeci was dominating the R&B charts in the mid-'90s, Cedric and Joel Hailey are obviously comfortable in each other's musical company. And this empathy shows in the pair's 2002 offering EMOTIONAL, the follow-up to 2000's X. While there's no obvious standout track here, the album functions as a primer in soft soul stylings, with the multi-layered vocals and lush harmonies punctuated by the pair's occasional soulful rasps.
Love-man themes dominate, and with titles such as "This Very Moment," Love Me Carefully," and "Say Yes," the duo stake out their emotional terrain and navigate the sophisticated ...
