"Chop Suey!" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.
"Aerials" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Hard Rock Performance.
While System of a down are often cast with the nu-metal crowd, their sound is closer to '80s thrash (and even hardcore punk) than to any of the rap-metal hordes. Grinding guitars and death-knell drums may be the order of the day, but they work in service of a highly developed socio-political consciousness. In fact, when he's not lacerating his vocal cords, singer Tankian delivers his rebellious lyrics in a tone reminiscent of infamous Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra. Make no mistake, the thrash quotient on TOXICITY is high enough to satiate even the hungriest headbanger, but System of a Down understands the power of dynamics, often moving from a whisper to a scream over the course of the album (though they obviously spend far more time on the scream end of the spectrum). Additionally, they deliver their eye-gouging riffs with an unerring precision that never devolves into an indistinct blur. This hard-hitting quartet knows how to deliver the hard-rock goods with grace.

Rolling Stone (9/27/01, p.70) - 3.5 stars out of 5 - "...Both manic and schizoid, Tankian veers easily from sing-rap rhythm to Korn-ish hysterics to demonic baritone growl to doomily ruminative....the music insists on forward motion without trapping itself in a thrashy lock-step rut..." Spin (1/02, p.76) - Ranked #1 in Spin's "Albums of the Year 2001". Spin (p.89) - "System have an undeniable nerd-prog charm..." Entertainment Weekly (9/7/01, pp.161-2) - "...Strange and engaging....It all adds up to bizarro type of meta; that has a warped majesty and strength..." - Rating: B- Q (9/01, p.121) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Matches Slipknot for manic intensity while employing a freeform approach to songcraft which invites comparison to the lunatic-fringe rock of the '60s..." Alternative Press (2/02, p.64) - Ranked #9 in AP's "25 Best Albums of 2001". Alternative Press (10/01, p.102) - 9 out of 10 - "...This is not pop music - this is psychic wreckage." Toxicity album
$10.19 AENIMA was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Recording Package. "Aenima" won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.
On its second full-length album, this hard-rocking quartet delivers 15 tracks of unrelenting aggression and focused intensity. Rather than overwhelm with huge sonic washes of guitar and booming drums, Tool employs a propulsive, snaky approach that makes use of undulating rhythms and clipped, percussive guitar riffs. Maynard James Keenan's vocals follow suit, opting for a heavily processed slow burn instead of the post-grunge bellow favored by so many hard-rock bands. Instead of flailing uncontrollably in all directions, the group's raw, energetic sound is tightly ...

Toxicity CD music
$6.25 System of a Down sees itself as being an integral part of a new musical revolution of heavy music. On the surface, the band's manifesto seems tangential to Rage Against the Machine's; but musically SOAD is a groove-metal machine, with a sound that incorporates a punk ethic, Panteraesque riffs, and a schizophrenic vocal approach reminiscent of Mike Patton.
Like a dose of chicken soup for a disconnected moshing youth, SYSTEM OF A DOWN is unrelenting. "Sugar" segues from neo-jazz verses into pounding thrash-core choruses. "Spiders" shows more depth, dynamics, and even poetic, melodic vocals. The production of the album is raw and very close to that ...

Toxicity music CDs
$10.19 "Schism" won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.
Approaching Tool's LATERALUS with a casual ear would be a careless endeavor, to say the least. The sheer magnitude of the musical and emotional textures is as heady as it is primal. Standing out as one of the defining traits of the Tool sound is Justin Chancellor's hauntingly melodic ...

Toxicity songs
$6.05 Ginger has been playing in bands and writing songs since her freshman year in High School. So when Spring rolled around in 2004 Ginger decided it was time to break out of the close knit band that she had been in for the last 6 years and do a solo project called Ginger Sling.Being the bass player and one of the main singer/songwriters for the band the Halo Friendlies, Ginger had the opportunity accomplish many things bands only dream of. With the Halo Friendlies Ginger has toured the United States many times over including performing on the Vans Warped Tour. She toured the UK five times in the past year, for months at a time. She has done two USO tours after 9/11 playing shows in Bosnia, Kosovo and Germany. The Halo Friendlies released an album for EMI's Tooth and Nail Records and recorded a song for the Freaky Friday Soundtrack in 2003. She then received a gold record for the sale of over 500,000 copies of the Soundtrack. From 2001-2002 Ginger was also the bass player for the band Lo Ball where she had the opportunity to work with John Porter (The Smiths, Morrissey) and Michael Beinhorn (Hole, Soundgarden). She has also performed live with producer Linda Perry and fellow solo artist Sierra Swan twice in the past few months. But all of these things have only resulted in making one thing clear to Ginger, "Life is short so I want to make the best music I can from my heart." To her this means writing songs without compromise. Her music is powerful, melodic and full of pop and rock sensibilities. Her main influences are the Beatles, Elvis Costello, Superdrag and Elliot Smith. Ginger Sling, named after a lyric in the Beatles' song Savoy Truffle, is backed by a rocking band with herself ...
