SPIT is an Enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files, including a music video for the album track "Brackish."

All-female hard-rock bands have come a long way since the days of Vixen and Girlschool. Even Brit-punk purveyors Fluffy failed to prove that they could rock as hard as they posed. For whatever reason, the weak link in bands of this genre is consistently the rhythm section. Thankfully, nothing could be further from the truth with the thrash grrrls of Kittie. The band's simple, cutesy name is as deceptive as their glam-rock image. On their second album, SPIT, Kittie slams and grooves hard.

Stylistically, the band's sound has the attitude of Liz Phair and the brutal down-tuned riffs of Korn. Their sing-then-scream vocals can be hard to swallow at times, but one can't help but respect their intensity. In "Get Off" (not to be confused with the Prince song of same name), lead vocalist Morgan Lander incorporates chilling theological references. "Immortal" is the standout melodic track; the grim lyrics are a polarized contrast to the Tracy Bonhamesque vocals and hippie percussion. "Brackish" warns against the trappings of codependency and is a rallying cry for women to be strong and emotionally independent. While there's no spice to the styptic sounds of Kittie, they assuredly have grrrl power.

This is an import version of the 2000 album.

Recorded at EMAC Studios, London, Canada.

Kittie: Morgan Lander (vocals, guitar); Fallon Bowman (guitar, background vocals); Tanya Candler (bass, background vocals); Mercedes Lander (drums).

RockRolling Stone (3/30/00, p.65) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...fairly good-natured for an exercise in repetitive maximum aggro....classic head-banging riffs, drum thrash, stop and start construction and the tense, guttural vocals of Morgan Lander..."
Entertainment Weekly (2/11/00, p.75) - "...kicks boy-club, thrash-metal butt....their provocative debut is corrosive and melodic [and] cool..." - Rating: B+
Alternative Press (1/00, p.91) - 4 out of 5 - "...their music stands on its own merits....Kittie have raised the bar for aggro knuckle-draggers the world 'round, regardless of gender."
CMJ (1/08/01, p.26) - Included in CMJ's "Best Loud Rock Albums" of 2000.
CMJ (2/7/00, p.3) - "...a netherworld of no-holds-barred metal....a bitchin' dose that'll leave you delirious with cat scratch fever, while it redefines your notions of 'girl power'..."
Melody Maker (3/28/00, p.48) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...A brilliant boundary trouncing debut....The maturity, hardness and accessibility leave you gobsmacked. Irrespective of anything."

5 stars LOVING IT !!
I feel bad for all of you who are saying stuff about this album, basically about KITTIE. I'd like to see you try & put a band together & make your way to fame. Of course this is only the first album so it's not going to be a master piece right off, but at least they're trying. My favorite song on this album is "Charlotte". The fisrt song I ever hear from them. I Love Em !!

3 stars Pathetic, I hope they choke.
Truly terrible. The only people who like these dykes are femenists and faggots, because it makes them feel a couple inches taller when they scream along with it in their parents basment. What's wrong with the album? Where should I start? It's pure rythym, there's a sever lack of any good lead moments. Wich wouldn't be so bad if the rythym wasn't so incredibly boring. As a metalhead, and guitarist myself I feel insulted by these hacks. Furthermore Morgan is a terrible vocalist. There are few people who can scream out there and make it sound good, and she aint one of them. She sounds like she's giving birth to a porpcupine. Turn this sh*t off and go buy one of the following instead......Slayer: Reign in blood, Iron Maiden: Number of the beast, Judas Priest: Painkiller, Children of Bodom: Follow The Reaper, Trivium: Ascendency, Darkane: Expanded senses. All are examples of great metal of their time. Kittie is just another Linkin Park.
