For The Michael Schenker Story Live, Michael Schenker assembled a new band, comprised of former members of Mannequin, Yngwie Malmsteen's backing group, and Great King Rat. His intention was to retrace the progression of his career from UFO to MSG by hitting all of the highlights in front of a Japanese audience. The result is a double-disc, two-and-a-half hour tour de force designed for hardcore Schenker fans, since anyone else will find the ceaseless soloing a little indulgent. Still, the album scores points for demonstrating how consistent his music was throughout the years, as well as for showcasing some first-class soloing by Schenker. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

The Finest Guitarist Of His Era This is definitely the best live album done by the Michael Schenker Group, superior to 1981's muddy-sounding 'One Night At Budokan'.
It was recorded at the more intimate Sun Plaza Hotel, also in Tokyo. Here, they cover MS career in chronological order and excel all the way, with 'Another Piece Of Meat', 'Save Yourself' & 'Written In the sand' proving to be highlights.
On Disc 2, Schenker showcases an acoustic prowess on beauties like 'Never Ending Nightmare' and the mischievious 'Bijou Pleasurette'. My fave track is the UFO gem 'Love To Love', with Leif Sundin on vocals. The version of 'Rock Bottom' is shorter than usual but remains credible. This is an excellent live album.
