FAKE SOUND OF PROGRESS, the debut album for these Welsh nu-metallists, contains a few surprises, not the least of which are the band's literate lyrical approach and the inclusion of turntable scratching. With a production that tends to highlight vocalist Ian Watkins' distinctive wail, Lostprophets are masters at pop metal, as evidenced by tracks such as "Five Is a Four Letter Word" and "And She Told Me to Leave," the latter of which features skittering, jungle-influenced drums in a freewheeling, innovative take on the genre. Lyrically they're all about alienation, angst, and, er, Japanese monster movies, ("Shinobi vs. Dragon Ninja"), which hints at the not-so-hidden fact that this smart collection of punchy rock has a sly wit, too. The Lostprophets' predilection for experimentation and airy take on metal truisms bears fruit here--this is smart, disaffected, rock that leaves the listener craving more of the same.

Could it get any better?....No it cannot! Probably my favourite rock album of all time. This band deserves all the success they get. Hardcore top quality riffs and songs that make you rock out harder than ever before. IT RULES!!! Submitted by dare_2_say (London. UK) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo 1 of 1 found this helpful.

They Always Rocked! This album is one you really need to listen to quite a bit... it seriously grows on you, until one day you find yourself listening to it on repeat and babbling helplessly :)
This album is the great unknown Lost Prophets album, not at all mainstream. it is perhaps their weakest album, but they are my favourite band (probably) and so i still tihnk it's a really excellent record. the unusual depths they go to on this album become less prominent later, even though the vocals and riffs have not quite yet achieved perfection. I like the strange and excitng mix of techno and metal and video game music that appears in many tracks, such as kobrakai, and she told me to leave. Shinobi vs Dragon Ninja is a must hear,a nd in my opinion definitely the best track.
Fav Tracks: Shinobi Vs Dragon Ninja, Kobrakai, The Fake Sound Of Progress.
