Despite the success of Bad, it was hard not to view it as a bit of a letdown, since it presented a cleaner, colder, calculated version of Thriller -- something that delivered what it should on the surface, but wound up offering less in the long run. So, it was time for a change-up, something even a superstar as huge as Michael Jackson realized, so he left Quincy Jones behind, hired Guy mastermind Teddy Riley as the main producer, and worked with a variety of other producers, arrangers, and writers, most notably Bruce Swedien and Bill Bottrell. The end result of this is a much sharper, harder, riskier album than Bad, one that has its eyes on the street, even if its heart gets middle-class soft on "Heal the World." The shift in direction and change of collaborators has liberated Jackson, and he's written a set of songs that is considerably stronger than Bad, often approaching the consistency of Off the Wall and Thriller. If it iRolling Stone (1/9/92, p.50) - 4.5 Stars - Excellent Plus - "...DANGEROUS rises to the impossible challenge set by THRILLER..." Spin (p.84) - "Teddy Riley produced the first half...juicing 'Can't Let Her Get Awy' with exhilarating disco propulsion, and corralling Heavy D for a roly-poly rap in 'Jam.'" Q (1/93, p.69) - Included in Q's list of the 50 Best Albums Of 1992. Q (Magazine) (p.127) - "[The production] spurred him to his breathless best on urban dance numbers 'Jam' and 'Remember The Time.'"

Remember The Time #3.
In The Closet #6.
Jam #26.

Michael is amazing with this album. If it wasn't for his bad stuff I bet you this album would of added up to the album Thriller.I just have to say WAY TO GO MICHAEL. Submitted by saylildude1985 (Louisiana) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo 10 of 14 found this helpful.
AMAZINGLY PERFECT Michael has the gift to make an album perfect and so he did with Dangerous. If I would say 'Thriller' is his best album (also the best album ever) it would underestimate the quality of Dangerous because there aren't (and will never be) any artists who can make an album as perfect as MJ's albums. All the songs are worth 5 stars. This album is way better than the average 'Greatest Hits'-CD of every artist. MICHAEL JACKSON IS THE BEST EVER, THAT'S FOR SURE!!! He's A REAL WORLD FAMOUS LEGEND.''' Michael Jackson keeps going over & over again continue to reinvented himself as an legendary rock & pop star that he ever lived. His 1991 album Dangerous named it one of his record of the 90's & still being on top of the charts earlier in 1992. The album was a huge success & making him THE KING OF POP .''''' King Of Pop? Michael Jackson has been entertaining the world since he was a Child. He is the worlds greatest ever pop icon. However, anything that does not match 'THRILLER' will be regarded as a failure.
This album is not a failure, but it is not of the same calibre as Thriller. 'Black or White'& 'Remember the Time' are the two gems from the album. The albums' sound has been sharpened to the extreme, with the help of Teddy Riley and Slash.
Artistically, Michael does not make any bold new statments. If this was an album made by any other artist i would say this was a fine album. This is not any ordinary artist, this is Michael Jackson!
