By 1993, Aerosmith's comeback was in full swing, and GET A GRIP proves that, after soldiering on through drug problems and interpersonal tensions, the band wasn't about to let its new lease on life get away. Most of the material on GET A GRIP is a far cry from the band's celebrated '70s work, both structurally and in terms of production. But while the sound is a bit more panoramic, incorporating more keyboards and a grander, more pop-oriented approach, Steven Tyler and the boys have lost none of their fire here.
Tyler's voice may have changed a bit over the years, but what he's lost in sheer lung power he's gained in character, and on the power ballad "Crazy" (one of the biggest hits of the band's career), he demonstrates the passionate poignancy he's capable of. While there are more pop-friendly tunes here than on some of their earlier albums, GET A GRIP does not lack for sheer rocking energy. Songs such as "Livin' on the Edge" are fueled by Joe Perry's distinctive rock-god guitar work, and the Perry-Tyler songwriting team generates both musical sophistication and four-on-the-floor hard rock.

Rolling Stone (5/13/93, p.103) - 3 Stars - Good - "...For a spirited half-hour or so, Aerosmith pretty much gets over on sheer awe-inspiring technique...." Q (4/01, p.92) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...Notable for the socially aware 'Livin On The Edge' and 2 syrupy ballads..." Musician (6/93, p.88) - "...you got exhuberance, riffs and all the production money can buy. And you got interludes of weirdness...Sounds like the complete Aerosmith listening experience to me..."
Great Aerosmtih Album Get a grip is one of Aerosmith's best albums. It doesn't quite measure up to Pump but is still one of the classics Submitted by Ezra (Hamilton, New Zealannd) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo 1 of 1 found this helpful.
90's golden album This is one of the best rock albums of the 90's. Just amazing. And the singles we all heard on radio are just the worst songs of this project....... Submitted by zl177 (Italy) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo

Bad Boys Born Again Just when you thought Aerosmith was through they come back with a fiery force. Get A Grip exemplifies this classic band's skill at mixing styles. They will have singing along to a rather country like chorus with harmonicas and such one second, pondering your life and it's meaning another, and cheering for poor people the next. Fans of the group's previous album's will find this one refreshing and just flat out fun. While newcomers to the group's following will also find enough here to warrant a purchase.
