More rock than Little Feat, but with a similar Southern boogie feel and absolute top-notch musicianship. Although tracks such as "I Ain't The One," "Simple Man," and "Tuesday's Gone" are outstanding, the one to wait for is "Free Bird," a song that rivals "Stairway To Heaven" for hard rock credibility. The nine-minute epic starts with organ and slide and builds in a similar way, but at 4:44 it changes into fifth gear and the air guitars are out in force.

I bought this album years and years ago. I also bought it on 8 track as well as cassette. I had never found it on CD before so when I did, I bought it. This is the music that I grew up listening to and it has never been better. I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert in Spring of 1974 and they just tore it up. These are the real hard rocking guys that got it all started.

Lynyrd Skynyrd Debut With A Bang
Lynyrd Skynyrd's debut album shows the band sound fully developed through years of woodshedding. The best songs here are "I Ain't The One", "Gimme Three Steps", "Simple Man", and "Free Bird", but the rest are great,too. Buy this or any other Lynyrd Skynyrd album, and you can't go wrong.

...after 30 years of lost albums...this 1 is unforgettable...worthy of legendary status.they connected to a generation of southern boys,who to this day relive high school antics thru these jacksonville boys songs...the guitar army lives on...

its hard to believe that it has been thirty years since rock fans were introduced to the lynyrd skynyrd band. the songs on their debut album seem as fresh today as they did then.from the all to familliar opening licks of the bar room stomper "gimme three steps" to the tearful wail on "tuesdays gone", this album will leave you wanting more. "freebird",the guitar anthem written by late guitarist allen collins,is here also.

It was hard to believe that Lynyrd Skynyrd could possibly top its classic, near-perfect 1973 debut, PRONOUNCED LEH-NERD SKIN-NERD. However, the boys from Florida accomplished the near-impossible with their sophomore release one year later, SECOND HELPING. It's hard to determine the better album of the two, but both proved to be a solid one-two punch that made Lynyrd Skynyrd one of the '70s' biggest (and unfortunately, most tragic) rock bands.
SECOND HELPING also helped define and create the Southern rock movement, as proven by such tracks as the classic anthem "Sweet Home Alabama" ...
