More rock than Little Feat, but with a similar Southern boogie feel and absolute top-notch musicianship. [sentence fragment okay with Muze?] Al Kooper produced this record, which explains the sensitive use of strings and piano. Although tracks such as "I Ain't The One," "Simple Man," and "Tuesday's Gone" are outstanding, the one to wait for is "Free Bird," a song that rivals "Stairway To Heaven" for hard rock credibility. The nine-minute epic starts with organ and slide and builds in a similar way, but at 4:44 it changes into fifth gear and the air guitars are out in force.

Been Looking For a Copy for a LONG time I bought this album years and years ago. I also bought it on 8 track as well as cassette. I had never found it on CD before so when I did, I bought it. This is the music that I grew up listening to and it has never been better. I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert in Spring of 1974 and they just tore it up. classic album turns 30 years old its hard to believe that it has been thirty years since rock fans were introduced to the lynyrd skynyrd band. the songs on their debut album seem as fresh today as they did then.from the all to familliar opening licks of the bar room stomper "gimme three steps" to the tearful wail on "tuesdays gone", this album will leave you wanting more.
