Riding a crossover wave that culminated in a Grammy win for 1999's MOUNTAIN HIGHŕVALLEY LOW, this gospel superstar re-teams with some of the same collaborators for her first studio album of the new millennium. Superstar producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis return to the helm for the inspirational lead-off single "Never Give Up," hip-hop flavored "I'm Thankful," and the gorgeous ballad "I'm Gonna Be Ready". Elsewhere, Adams keeps the contemporary R&B vibe going with the up-tempo funk of "Fo Sho'" (featuring fellow gospel songbird Karen Clark Sheard), groove-fueled jam "Unconditional," and the Stevie Wonder-lite of "Darling Girl" inspired by her newborn daughter.
Like fellow crossover sensation Kirk Franklin, the former schoolteacher/model keeps one foot firmly placed in the world of Christian music. For this outing, Adams shares her faith on the lush "Only If God Says Yes" and makes like Patti Labelle on the equally inspiring "Since The Last Time I Saw You." BELIEVE continues to find Yolanda Adams reshaping the sounds of modern gospel in a way that sounds fresh without losing the message of the Lord.

Pretty Good This album is not as good as "Mountain High...Valley Low", but it's still good. The album is a good album to relax and listen to, it's kinda laid back. It has it's uptempo songs but I would say the album is more inspirational than hard gospel. There is more "keep your head up, you can do it just believe in the Lord" rather than being really preachy. Most songs border around the same tone as the songs "That Name" and "The Things We Do", from her previous album. With the same kind of flow more of a mellow feeling. The best songs on the album, in my opinion, are "Darling Girl a really pretty song dedicated to her daughter. "I'm Gonna Be Ready", "Thank You", "Fo'Sho'" and "Never Give Up". Not The Best C'mon people just listen to the cd. This is not one of her best cd's. Most of the songs are slow. which in her case isn't the best thing. There's no doubt about it the girl can sang, but I don't belive that all of the songs were made for her voice and style. It seemed to me that she was trying to change her voice in small ways to try to make the songs work and they just weren't. Especially the way that Fo' SHo was done. I mean the song didn't even allow their vocal abilities to show through. i didn't like the way the cd was put together Submitted by jbug1310 (East St. Louis,IL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Believe CD music
$13.15 Veteran singer/songwriter Bob Frank began to record prolifically in the early years of the 21st century, perhaps in part to make up for his having dropped out of the music business for nearly three decades after his self-titled debut album in 1972. Between 2001 and 2006, he put out five CDs on his own Bowstring Records label, including three solo albums of original songs, the folk-rock collection Keep on Burning (2002); the voice-and-guitar disc Pledge of Allegiance (2004), containing several topical songs; and 2005's Ride the Restless Wind, featuring country music. Memphis International Records has signed Frank up and put out Red Neck, Blue Collar, which is a compilation drawn from those three albums with some of the tracks (particularly ones from the spare Pledge of Allegiance) boasting new overdubs to make the overall sound more consistent. So, for example, there is now a Jew's harp twanging away on the hilarious Biblical rewrite "Judas Iscariot" from Keep on Burning and a steel guitar on the trucker song "Coming into Glen Rock." As a result, Frank sounds more like a country artist, even if his perspective lacks most of the right-wing politics typical of country music, notably on the title song and especially "One Big Family," which is an attack on the rich-poor divide in America. Politics is only one element of Frank's concerns, however. He is perfectly capable of writing touching and funny story-songs, cowboy songs, and traditional country songs, all in a way that makes them sound like standards. Frank started his musical career as a Nashville songwriter, if a highly individual and idiosyncratic one, and he still puts the song first. This album contains some of his best. ~ William Ruhlmann
