Despite various tabloid-worthy tribulations and a rather flat cinematic debut in the musical bio-flick GLITTER, Britney and her fellow singing Mousketeers would do well to take notes on the galactic-sized success of '90s diva Mariah Carey. The two-disc GREATEST HITS bears witness to Carey's mind-boggling chart dominance and her remarkable five-octave range. Encompassing all the chart-toppers of 1998's #1'S compilation including "I Don't Wanna Cry," "Hero," and "One Sweet Day," this anthology traces the Long Islander's path from heartfelt balladeer ("Vision Of Love," "Love Takes Time") to hip-hop flavored dance-pop queen ("Fantasy," "Make It Happen").
Among Mariah's most impressive traits is her ability to seamlessly match up with a wide range of duet partners. It's about time Columbia records release a CD worthy of a mega star like Mariah. It includes previously unreleased but widely heard tracks,"Butterfly, Forever, and Underneath The Stars." True fans will delight in the inclusion of the remix of " All I want for Christmas is you", how timely. This definitely wets the appetite for whats to come in 2002.

Mariah Carey is a goddess! This collection of her hit singles is superb! All the Mariah haters out there need to stop. How can anyone deny the outstanding achievements of this amazing vocalist. "One Sweet Day" spent a record 16 weeks atop the Hot 100 Billboard singles chart, "Fantasy" became the first single for a female solo artist to debut #1 and her singles have charted 61 weeks.So she is an ICON! Mariah Carey "Greatest Hits" showcase her 15 #1 singles, history making collaborations, and so much more. This is a MUST for TRUE Mariah fans!

This is only Rick Shea's third solo album in a decade, but the first since becoming a full-fledged member of Dave Alvin's Guilty Men band. Consequently, there's a slightly tougher feel to this release, likely inspired by Alvin's approach, yet Shea remains a unique voice in Americana music. Using his acoustic guitars, mandolins, and pedal steel as a backdrop for an eclectic stroll though stripped-down country, folk, blues, and swamp rock, Shea exudes class, dignity, and a heartfelt devotion to this music, which exudes from every track. Twelve of the 13 songs are originals (the only cover is an unplugged version of Lefty Frizell's "Saginaw Michigan"), and all are deeply ingrained in the honky tonk, hardcore country and low-key, ominous rock & roll that inspires Shea. The title track rocks with an easygoing Stones' swagger, Dave Alvin lends his guitar to the bluesy "Piedmont Ridge," and the determined stomp-along with the catchy riff of "Black-Eyed Girl" are the album's most aggressive cuts. But it's on the crackling "Lonesome Cannonball" where the eclectic pieces fit together as a forlorn fiddle sneaks between Alvin's robust, wiry guitar, a determined simmering mid-tempo beat, and Shea's easygoing vocals.
