Contains the bonus track "Every Ghetto," which follows "What Goes Around."
In 1994, Nas dropped his debut, ILLMATIC. More than just a classic, it's perhaps the definitive East Coast street hip-hop record, bereft of cliché, rife with rich, inventive rhymes. His early coronation proved both blessing and curse, as his three follow-ups, while shining next to most platinum peers, never reached the ingenious heights of his introduction. Just by the title, STILLMATIC makes obvious its yearning to recapture that feel, a ridiculously tall order if not an impossible one, but it comes dangerously close, which merely makes it one of the top albums of its year.
At times it feels as if half of STILLMATIC consists of shots at Jay-Z, ex-cohort Prodigy, and others, at times thinly veiled, other times not veiled at all (the opening two words of "Ether"). Out of the mouths of others, this game would be old and boring. What allows Nas transcendence is that he is not your average hater posturing to sell records, he's earnestly responding to a slander with his supreme, unwavering lyrical style. Nas has an insane arsenal of words and an acute sense of incongruity, best illustrated on "Destroy and Rebuild," where he reverses the guns of KRS-One's blistering attack on Nas's home, Queensbridge ("The Bridge Is Over"), to both glorify his beloved 'hood and deny the MCs he believes have fallen off.

Stillmatic
$6.09 Landmark 1994 debut from Queensbridge rapper mixed dope beats with elevated, poetic, but sternly street rhymes.
Out of a seemingly endless array of hip hop albums, every now and again something fresh and powerful rises to the top of the pile. Hailing from the Queensbridge Housing Projects in Long Island City (home to Marley Marl among others), 20-year old Nasir "Nas" Jones is less concerned with being an impersonator than with being an originator, bypassing adolescent fantasies and B-boy braggadocio in favor of jazzy beats, rap noir realism and new answers to urban despair.
ILLMATIC is his story, a cautionary tale of the inner city streets, and as Nas makes plain on his opener, "The Genesis," this is what he does, with or without a record contract, and it's going to be served up straight, no chaser. And because Nas has the courage to transcend popular trends, to separate himself from the ranks of wannabes and me-toos, he may be on the verge of inaugurating some stylistic changes of his own.
Production-wise, Nas has gathered together some of the superstars of the hip hop underground, producers the likes of Q-Tip, Pete Rock, L.E.S., DJ Premier and The Large Professor, but it is Nas' unique rhythmic cadences, his idiomatic sense of on-the-street wordplay, his disrespect for the high time and the empty ...
| | Nastradamus CD (1999)
Stillmatic
$6.79 With his fourth release, NASTRADAMUS, this lyrically inclined street poet further stands his ground in hip-hop. Though his previous two albums surpassed the commercial success of his first album, neither was as critically acclaimed. But on NASTRADAMUS, Nas comes close to the feel of his classic debut, ILLMATIC.
Though there are hype party cuts like "Nastradamus" and "You Owe Me," it's the underground tracks where Nas kicks street-inspired rhymes that make NASTRADAMUS a hip-hop ...
| | Nas It Was Written CD (1996)
Stillmatic
$6.79 "If I Ruled The World (Imagine That)" was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance.
Nas' 1994 debut album, ILLMATIC, has been called one of the best rap albums of all time, and this followup documents the main reason why: Nas is the supreme lyricist in hip-hop. On the surface he is a gangsta rapper dispensing richly detailed street stories. But Nas speaks in metaphors not easily interpreted, and his songs constantly challenge ...
| | Nas I Am... CD (1999)
Stillmatic
$6.79 I AM was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.
The original street poet is back. The third chapter in Nas' book of scriptures comes at a time when hip-hop starves for what made the rapper famous: intelligent, realistic songs with a hardcore street edge. I AM combines the underground feel of ILLMATIC ...
| | Nas The Lost Tapes CD (2002)
Stillmatic
$7.59 With I AM and STILLMATIC, Nas assured himself a permanent place in the history of hip-hop. The release of THE LOST TAPES, a collection of previously unreleased cuts recorded at those legendary sessions, adds to this considerable legacy. With most of these songs already cropping up as bootlegs on ...
| | Nas God's Son CD (2002)
Stillmatic
$7.59 In the tradition of its predecessor STILLMATIC, GOD'S SON seeks to erase the memory of Nas's commercial pop-crossover albums, instead hearkening back to the poetic glory days of STILLMATIC. The New York hip-hop legend returns to the thoughtful, introspective philosophy that turned heads early in his recording career. There are no attempts at fancy, hook-laden production ...
| | Marianne Faithfull Vagabond Ways CD (2000)
Stillmatic
$10.05 It's been a long strange trip from Jagger to motorcycles to Lucy Jordan to the Weimar Republic for the ex-convent girl whose once virginal tones graced "As Tears Go By" and "This Little Bird." Maintaining a balance between folk and pop, she managed to score a couple of hits in the '60s before the drugs kicked in. Re-emerging with the acclaimed BROKEN ENGLISH at the end of the '70s (with huskier vocals that betrayed her turbulent lifestyle) Faithfull recorded a number of rock albums for Island before exploring the music of '20s Berlin with 20TH CENTURY BLUES.
She certainly bares her soul in the semi-autobiographical VAGABOND WAYS. In "Incarceration Of A Flower Child" the subject is "sunk without hope in a haze of good dope and cheap wine." In the title track she sings "I drink and I take drugs, I love sex and I move around a lot." In the Cohen-esque "File It Under Fun From The Past" she pines for a lost love. The Leonard Cohen ...
