The Coolidge sisters return as Walla with another dose of new-age gospel. Unfortunately, the blending of Native American motifs with heavy synthesizer and highly produced vocal harmonies makes the overblown spiritual message seem rather smarmy. Indeed, it's pretty difficult to find true inspiration in saccharine tunes like "Gathering of Eagles" and "The Sequence." ~ Tim Sheridan
Recorded at Studio West, San Diego, California in June 1999. Includes liner notes by Walela.

| | Cameo Parkway 1959-1964: The Best Of Bobby Rydell CD (2005)
Unbearable Love songs
$9.89 Collecting recordings from throughout the first five years of early-1960s heartthrob Bobby Rydell's career, this compilation features his first hits, like the Doc Pomus composition "I Dig Girls," standards like "That Old Black Magic," a wide variety of Brill Building classics like "The Third House (In From the Right)," and one early Lennon and McCartney composition, "A World Without Love." Significantly, Rydell's version of the latter song lost out to Peter and Gordon's British Invasion hit--the onetime teen idol was one of many U.S. ...

| | Bad Manners Feel Like Jumping! CD (2005) Remastered
Unbearable Love songs
$9.75 Live albums recorded by ska revival bands way past their golden age aren't supposed to be recommended, especially when the album in question is reissued, renamed, and has "Greatest Hits Live!" on the cover. Despite all these warning signs, Feel Like Jumping! is a red-hot party by a band with a frontman with a name that says it all -- Buster Bloodvessel. Bad Manners are as powerful as they are playful. Captured live here at some unnamed venue in what seems to be the late '90s (judging from the track list), the bandmembers are also as tight on their instruments as they are sloppy with the vocals, coupling a driven, skittish ska party with wonderful British bowery belting. Despite 22 sweaty tracks whipping by in 66 minutes, the listener isn't going to be exhausted till it's all over. The pacing of a couple hits, then a couple new ones, then a couple covers works splendidly, and Buster and crew quit on a high note, making you think they've got another couple hours in them. "My Girl Lollipop," "Fatty Fatty," and "Lip Up Fatty" are just some of the fan favorites that get righteous workouts here, but the group also offers a wicked and almost out of control "Wooly Bully" and kick Max Romeo's "Wet Dream" up a couple notches. The call and response with the "audience" on "Wet Dream" also brings up the album's only bummer. Nobody's singing along and it doesn't take long to realize the audience is canned ...

| | Kaya Project And So It Goes CD (2008) (Import) Canada
Unbearable Love album
$17.09 Focused on more acoustic instrumentation than the previous KAYA PROJECT albums,...And So It Goes is an exotic tapestry of slide guitar, klezmer, clarinet, classical Indian violin and Arabic mowals fused with tribal percussion, breakbeats and Gypsy Jazz Laced with Seb Taylor's signature guitar work and Natasha Chamberlain's keyboards, vocals and flute, this album is a warm and timeless musical experience, leaving the listener plenty of delectable elements to savour.
Number three for Kaya Project, And So It Goes features once again guitarist Seb Taylor and wordless singer/keyboardist Natasha Chamberlain laying down their delicate ethnic-chillout vibe, surrounded by a deep-running cast of guest musicians and singers. Of particular note are the vocal contributions of Irina Mikhailova and Randolph Matthews, the latter adding a nice "African reggae" vibe to "Zema Lasu," an understated highlight. Some tracks ("Obsidian Beats" jumps to mind) are dancefloor ...
