Although Euro-rockers UFO had built a solid fan base worldwide amongst metal heads with such releases as PHENOMENON, FORCE IT, and NO HEAVY PETTING, the band had yet to issue a solid album from beginning to end. This changed with their 1977 release, LIGHTS OUT.
As with the aforementioned titles, guitarist Michael Schenker's six-string heroics are the real determining factor to UFO's sound--look no further than his fluid soloing skills on the barnstorming title track. But you'll find other metallic standouts throughout LIGHTS OUT, such as the album-opening good times anthem "Too Hot to Handle," and the Zeppelin-esque "Electric Phase," as well as more subdued fare such as "Try Me." LIGHTS OUT remains one of UFO's finest recordings.
1999 digitally remastered edition of the group's sixth full length studio album, their third recorded for the Chrysalis label. Many fans advocate this set as their best time in the studio, with singer Phil Mogg hitting his stride as a confident vocalist rivalling all his peers and former Scorpion Michael Schenker's guitar playing showing consistent flashes of brilliance, accenting the peaks of every track. Includes the FM radio staples of "Just Another Suicide", "Too Hot To Handle", "Getting Ready" and the title track of "Lights Out".

| Lights Out Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews I lived the green and blue I never understood why UFO was not bigger than they were. This band competed with any of them-from Sabbath to Tommy Bolin The mid to late seventies produced the widest variety of entertaning music never heard, and UFO was at the top of the ignored. Every album they made is better than any music put out today. This album is a classic example of the fun we had. People today have no concept of what it was like to have bands competing against each other, in a productive way, to put out the best music possible absent the grab for the almighty dollar. UFO actually loved what they were doing and rocked on for the sake of rocking on. Submitted by mfoster2 (San Diego,CA USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

Light Out! This is a very good album. Nice remastering. I think it would be all that much better with bonus tracks. I still say No Heavy Petting is just a little better! Submitted by Moondog303 (Pensacola, FL USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Lights Out
$12.15 Recorded live at The Amphitheatre, Chicago, Illinois; The Gardens, Louisville, Kentucky and in Youngstown, Ohio. Includes liner notes by Jon Sutherland.
One of the premier live rock albums of the '70s, STRANGERS features a band at its peak performing all its hits and fan favorites. The album was recorded during two nights in Ohio in 1978, when the band opened for Blue Oyster Cult. This reissue features remastered sound, extended liner notes, and the correct track sequencing.
The album's two bonus tracks, "Hot 'N' Ready" and "Cherry," get the album started in supreme hard-rock fashion. "Out in the Street" shows why Phil Mogg is overlooked as one of the premier hard-rock vocalists of his era, while "Only You Can Rock Me" features the guitar prowess of Michael Schenker. "Doctor Doctor" is probably the band's most well-known song, ...

Lights Out
$7.29 As the drums kick into the fierce opener "Tarot Woman," it's obvious that RISING delivers directly to your door. It is the band's second release, and a vast improvement over RICHIE BLACKMORE'S RAINBOW. With a revamped lineup that sounds like it had been touring together for years, the album takes no prisoners. "Starstruck" is a classic groove reminiscent of guitarist Blackmore's ex-band Deep Purple. Blackmore replaced everyone from the first album's lineup except vocalist ...

Lights Out
$9.09 Up until their 1974 album, PHENOMENON, England's UFO had issued several albums that did little to expand their cult fan base at home, let alone worldwide. But through an early-'70s tour with German metallists the Scorpions, they finally found the missing piece to the puzzle--guitar wizard Michael Schenker. UFO convinced Schenker to leave the Scorpions (which wasn't an easy task, since his older brother ...
| | U F O Obsession CD (1978) (Import) Remastered; Sweden
Lights Out
$8.99 UFO had finally fulfilled their potential with 1977's exceptional hard rock tour de force, LIGHTS OUT, and released another prime slice of heavy metal just one year later, OBSESSION. While most '70s Euro-metal bands such as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, etc., dealt largely with doom and gloom, UFO proved to have more in common with such US melodic hard rockers as Van Halen.
OBSESSION proved to be UFO's most successful studio album ever, on the strength of such hard rocking highlights ...

$13.49 I wanted to be a performer for as long as I can remember. I guess it started with singing in the shower until the hot water ran out. Saw the Beatles on TV and thought it looked like fun. And my dad hated it...."hmmmm... I might be on to something here," thought I. Mom, on the other hand, was a frustrated housewife in a bad marriage. She seemed to be sad a lot. But she would hum and sing around the house and there was always some shlocky radio station playing in the background. More than anything I believe that's where my love of a good melody came from. Sang in grade school shows and found out I liked it when the music teacher said for me to stand out front and sing and the audience applauded. If you look at the Richmonds' home movies you'll see it's basically "The Jake Show" with some other kids in the background.... so when people clapped at the end of a song I was hooked. Bugged my parents for a guitar forever ‘til they finally got me a $35.00 Kent nylon string guitar when I was 9. I immediately signed up for the school talent show. Not knowing how to play (or even tune...) a guitar wasn't gonna slow me down!! I can only imagine what that 9 year old boy with that untuned guitar sounded like... ah, enthusiasm!!!Met Tim lopes in 7th grade. His band played all the jr. high school assemblies and he was very popular with the girls. I asked him why and he said, "it's 'cuz I play guitar...." and I thought to myself "hmmm, i've got a guitar." So I "learned " to play it. Having no patience I immediately got the best players I could from my school and I put a band together. I’m sure we sounded about as good as you think but god it was fun. A friends front door key fit the lock to the girls bathroom at a local grade school and after hours, when no one was around, four kids with one amp would go in there cuz the echos were killer. It was teen age boy heaven, a magic wand. the key to make everything feel good and make sense.....quit school in the beginning of my jr. year to be a professional musician. i wanted to take Duane Allman's place in the Allman brothers band. I’d actually still like the job!!! By age 19 I was good enough to bluff my way into "the Jeremiah Sundown Band". We toured the mid west for almost a year. When that came to an end I moved to Los Angeles to be where the real deal was. Spent 18 of the next 23 years there. I got scared at first cuz there's some world class talent down there, then I realized that they were better than me at their "game" but that no one could "out Jake Richmond" me. So I've always tried to play exactly what I feel. Works mostly, sometimes it don't. Ahh, life on the edge....LA really toughened/ tightened me up and I played as a pick up player in a lot of bands. met a woman with a good job, a house and a couple kids. I’d been tired of couches and station wagons for some time and decided to try the straight life of husband and father. After a few years it became obvious to me that this marriage wasn't gonna work and that since I didn't have to be "responsible" anymore I put "the Jake Richmond band" together with the personnel from "Perry’s Wife", a popular bar band I had for years before I got married. We played blues around the LA area and we even got picked up for a half dozen Japanese tours in the mid 90's. Over a 3 year period we recorded what was to become my first album" it's about time..." which I didn't press until Fab at Lone Pine records approached me about it in 2000. It’s now out of print, though I still play a couple tunes from it live. Drugs and drama nearly killed me so I moved back here to the bay area. Wound up on the Russian River where I met Daniel Patchin. We put this silly little bar band together so we could make noise, get a couple free beers and maybe chase a pretty girl or two... we had a lot of fun, hire a "chick singer" and a great drummer, James Foster. I’ve always had a feeling that James will wind up on big concert stages (I still believe it!) and so I di.
