| | Mojave 3 Out Of Tune CD Mojave 3 Discography of CDs
Like most of their shoegazing peers, Slowdive's Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell embraced ambient and techno music. Then they slyly shifted gears, opting for the road less traveled with the mellow and melodious folk-rock strains of Mojave 3. OUT OF TUNE builds on the lovely, understated charms of 1995's ASK ME TOMORROW. Contrary to the title, the group's fine second set showcases some of Halstead's strongest writing since the dreamy heyday of Slowdive.
OUT OF TUNE is graced with those heart-melting Halstead/Goswell harmonies--still every bit as beautiful and blessed on "Give What You Take" and "Baby's Coming Home" as they were in Slowdive--and with accents of Hammond, Wurlitzer, pedal steel, and brass. Lisa Millet's sublime gospel pipes bring the strummed acoustic chords and downy melodies of "Caught Beneath Your Heel" all that much closer to heaven. Halstead may borrow back pages from Bob Dylan ("Some Kinda Angel," "To Whom Should I Write") and Neil Young ("This Road I'm Travelling") and crib his share of leaves from Nick Drake ("Yer Feet"). But OUT OF TUNE shows Mojave 3 coming of its own, with a sparkling suite quite different from Slowdive's drowsy, gauzy enthrallments but no less seductive.

Rolling Stone (4/1/99, pp.98-99) - 3 1/2 Stars (out of 5) - "...embraces American-folk-sired countryisms that aren't exactly in sync with the Top Forty world. But OUT OF TUNE is stunning, an unerring collection of floating little moments..." Entertainment Weekly (1/22-1/29/29, pp.100-101) - "...OUT OF TUNE pumps up the volume and country-rock touches, and is all the better for it....Swelling organs and forlorn steel guitars invest Halstead's bitter-sweet musings and farewells...with sonic and emotional depth; the music collapses into its own beautiful fragile heap..." - Rating: A- Magnet (4-5/99, p.74) - "...low-key but engaging, elements of traditional folk-pop and cosmic cowboy rock mingling like old chums harmonizing around the campfire..." CMJ (1/25/99, pp.24-25) - "...Mojave 3 has crafted a haunting album full of solemn guitar melodies, ghostly vocal harmonies and stark, melodic emotion..." Out Of Tune album
$13.04 It wasn't surprising that the Buggles' second release, Adventures in Modern Recording, didn't meet the expectations that 1980's internationally successful The Age of Plastic set. Both Horn and Downes had been working on several outside projects, including Yes' 1980 release Drama, which severely limited their time, and for the most part, Adventures was a Trevor Horn solo project; Geoff Downes only appears on three tracks. However, many of the criticisms leveled against this outing were unfounded and there is still much to like; several songs, such as the infectious title track, equal The Age of Plastic. Both "Adventures in ...

Out Of Tune CD music
$9.69 Digitally remastered by Tom Coyne (Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
Nigerian vocalist Sade Adu has carved out a cosmpolitan niche for herself over the past decade, gathering together elements of cool jazz, samba, reggae, funk and pop all under the pastoral umbrella of her suede-and-velvet voice. A pop stylist with a musical universe all her own, Sade has endured and matured over the past decade, seemingly unaffected ...

| | Focus III CD (1972) (Import) Netherlands
Out Of Tune songs
$20.19 Riding on the success of their hit single "Hocus Pocus" from the revolutionary Moving Waves album, Focus got to work on this, their third LP in four years. While the debut album featured a style not too dissimilar to the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, Focus' second LP, Moving Waves, was purely instrumental and wholly serious-minded. Focus III kept this same sound, but approached it with a jollier, more accessible tone. As with its predecessor, Focus III featured only one tune that would have a chance of being a hit single. The enjoyable rhythm of "Sylvia," partnered with Jan Akkerman's victorious ...
| | Tim Easton Break Your Mother's Heart CD (2003)
Out Of Tune album
$10.39 The follow-up to Tim Easton's well-received sophomore effort The Truth About Us strips his rootsy Americana sound down even further. The John Prine and Bob Dylan comparisons still hold, but now he adds a taste of Paul Simon's earliest work; all noticeable in his unaffected, near laconic, sand-and-honey vocals. On Break Your Mother's Heart, echoes of Dylan's "Tombstone Blues" run through "Lexington Jail," made all the more vivid when Jai Winding's Al Kooper-ish organ enters the mix. But for all its obvious connections, Easton's music remains refreshingly unique; infused with colorful lyrics that describe the struggling lives and lost loves of rural Americans in heart-wrenching detail. Although assisted by high-profile drummer Jim Keltner (along with Heartbreaker Mike Campbell and noted session guitarist Greg Leisz on one track each), Easton overdubs himself on a variety of stringed and keyboard instruments, adding to the album's already individual feel. On "The Man That You Need," the disc's longest and most intimate track, he handles all the music, imparting the sober tune with a comfy confidential connection. Between ...
| | Eric Malmberg Den Gatfulla Manniskan CD (2005) (Import) Sweden
Out Of Tune CD music
$15.79 Fans of Sagor & Swing will feel right at home with this first solo release from their organist, Eric Malmberg. After all, Malmberg was writing all of the repertoire of that organ/drums duo. So Den Gåtfulla Människan simply sounds like Sagor & Swing minus the drums -- plus an occasional beatbox that doesn't have the pastoral charm of Ulf Möller's drumming, but does the ...
