| | Stacey Kent Boy Next Door CD (2003)
Lush Life
$17.25 What strikes the listener about the American expatriate contemporary jazz singer Stacey Kent is, for all her obvious traditionalism, how utterly fresh she sounds. THE BOY NEXT DOOR (released originally in 2003 and reissued in 2008 with two extra tracks) boasts a song list that WW-II-era songbirds such as Jo Stafford or Margaret Whiting would have been comfortable with, including note-perfect versions of Irving Berlin's "Say It Isn't So," "The Trolley Song," and the winsome title track. To be sure, there is an up-to-date bossa nova treatment of "Que rest-t-il de nos amours?" (the original French lyric of "I Wish You Love), which sports a smooth Stan Getz-like solo from Kent's husband, the British tenor saxophonist Jim Tomlinson, as well as some '60s pop gems like "What The World Needs Now" and "You've Got A Friend." Still, Kent's tart, light voice, and her precise diction and pitch, make her the classiest of the New Traditionalists, a true successor to the late Susannah McCorkle.
This has to be Stacey Kent's finest album yet. With no less than 16 fantastic interpretations of songs made famous by male icons during Stacey's adolescence, this album features tracks ranging all the way from "The Best Is Yet To Come" (Tony Bennett), "T

| | In Arkadia Release The Shadow CD (2006)
Lush Life
$13.15 In Arkadia, was born in january 2005 with the fusion of Lunarmony (Jocelyn, Theo) and Catalyst (Florent, Eddie and Seb). The band released the first demo named "Shadows In Vein" toward the end of march of that same year. Unfortunately, Eddie (the bass player) decided to leave the band right after the end of the recording of the demo. The band decided to look for a new bassist and Eduardo Meneses was the one chosen by the band. The band gets to work to write their first album and to play a few gigs. After listening to "Shadows In Vein" (their first demo), a producer was interested to sign a co-production contract with In Arkadia. After this, the band started to write songs for the album. After six months without any contract, In Arkadia decided to stop wasting their time and to produce their album themselves. Florent (the drummer) recorded the 12 songs of the album "Release The Shadow" in november 2005 at the AME studio in Villeurbanne, France. It took him 16 hours to record all the drum parts. Then, the band bought a good quality home studio to record the other parts of the album themselves. Seb and Théo recorded all the guitar parts (including the solos). Jocelyn started to record the voice part with "Stormkeeper" and "Delirium Tremens". Unfortunately for the band, Jocelyn decided to stop singing for the band because his job was taking most of his time. After a few weeks of hesitation, In Arkadia started to look for another singer. After a few unsuccessful tries, Seb forced Théo to sing with a death metal voice... The musical style of the band totally changed from the heavy metal they were originally playing with Jocelyn. Théo started to do the recording with his death metal voice while Seb was helping him with the writing of the lyrics. In Arkadia decided not to put the songs "Shadows In Vein" (from the first demo) and "Liars in Heaven" (wrote by Jocelyn) in "Release The Shadow". The recording of the album was finished in march 2006. The album was mastered by Mika Jussila at the Finnvox studio in Finland. ...
