Playa Rich Project, Vol. 2 CD music
$11.59 "We don't have bar mitzvahs," raps Brother Ali on "Room With a View," "we become men the first time our father hits us." There's a lot of anger and pain behind the sophomore (and first CD) release by the self-described "urban Norman Rockwell," but Brother Ali chooses not to wallow ...
| | Isaac Hayes For The Sake Of Love/Don't Let Go CD (2004)
Playa Rich Project, Vol. 2 music CDs
$17.75 When first released in 1978 and 1979, these two Isaac Hayes albums coincided with a small commercial renaissance for the singer, who'd been out of the upper reaches of the charts since the mid-'70s. "Zeke the Freak," from For the Sake of Love, made the R&B Top 20, and his disco remake of the late-'50s Roy Hamilton hit "Don't Let Go" went Top 20 pop, dragging the album of the same name into the Top 40 as well. Still, these LPs -- here combined onto a single-disc CD -- were shadows of his best earlier work, even as they were true to his approach of mixing extended ballads, off-the-wall covers, and danceable soul-funk. For the Sake of Love offered a couple of his trademark smoochy soul ballad remakes of white pop songs in Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" and James Taylor's "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight," and admirable humanitarianism ...
| | Pitbull M.I.A.M.I. CD (2004)
Playa Rich Project, Vol. 2 songs
$13.75 For a label that is based in New York City, TVT has certainly been a major supporter of Southern rap. Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz, the Ying Yang Twins, Kingpin Skinny Pimp, and Jacki-O are among the Dirty South rappers who have recorded for TVT in the '90s or 2000s, and the name Pitbull can be added to that list. Armando Perez, aka Pitbull, brings a slight Latin flavor to hip-hop's Dirty South school on M.I.A.M.I., his first album for TVT. The Cuban-American MC doesn't inundate listeners with Latin influences; there are plenty of hip-hoppers in Latin America and Spain who rap in Spanish exclusively, but ...
| | Dez I Thanks For Life CD (2006)
Playa Rich Project, Vol. 2 album
$13.15 Desmond āDez Iā Boyd Biography Persistent, determined, and focus are words that describe this Jamaican āgriotā (story-teller) and extra-ordinary artist, Desmond āDez Iā Boyd. It was made remarkably clear as he confidently stated his purpose in the year 1999 at the Tastee Contest finals āmi nah stop ātil mi get di trophy!ā What judge could resist that kind of determination⦠it was no surprise when he was declared the winner of the Tasteeās final in 1999. It is this kind of true grit Desmond is applying in taking his career to another level along with planning and execution strategies developed by his management team at New Creation Management a unit of the Atlanta, Georgia based Sterling Communications Group, Inc. It all started for Boyd in church, at the tender age of four (4). He was very active in the youth choir at the church he attended in the district of his birth Harmons, Manchester on the paradise island of Jamaica. As he grew older, Dez Iās love affair with music never ceased. He has performed on numerous community events, boosting his confidence, until he finally took on the challenges of top talent contest series such as; the Popular Song Competition where he was a finalist and the long running Tastee Talent Contest. Desmondās first Tasteeās effort took him to the semi-finalsā¦but that didnāt deter, he never stopped until he won the coveted trophy. After copping the grand finals title in Jamaica, Boyd went on to capture third (3rd) place in the Tastee UK Talent Competition 2000, and also walked away with the Best Original Lyrics prize. Wanting to launch mainstream in the music business Desmond Boyd a/k/a Dez I worked with producer Courtney Murray, but āthings were kind of slowā. Being a good friend Murray pointed out to him that if he saw āa better opportunityā he should ātake it.ā Boyd did just that. He called his childhood pal Sherwin Sterling, CEO of the Atlanta Georgia based label New Creation Records, Inc. and expressed his need of entering the music fraternity. His friend advised him to send a demo. Dez I, not one to miss an opportunity quickly compliedā¦the rest is history, where Dez I and New Creation Records are concerned. Boyd is gearing up for the release of a few singles from his catalogue of future hits. His Popular Song Competition entry āEconomic Revolutionā and smash hit ...
