| | Shape Of Despair Angels Of Distress CD Shape Of Despair Discography of CDs
With just five songs listed on the packaging, one would naturally assume that Angels of Distress is an EP, but it is in fact an hour-long affair, containing extended musical suites far exceeding conventional song lengths. An ambitious, epic work of avant-garde doom metal, the album effectively crowns this group of Finnish manic-depressives as the absolute kings of dreary, gut-churning heaviness. Opeth-sized movements like the title track and "Night's Dew" frame their heavy metal guitars and death grunts with angelic female voices and oft times overbearing string and synthesizer orchestrations. It doesn't always come together seamlessly, but you have to admire the band for their creative reach. Quite honestly (and this is meant as the highest praise), this material truly is misery personified, the 17-minute "...To Live for My Death..." alone guaranteeing suicidal intentions for all. To the unprepared, Angels of Distress will likely prove unbearably sloth-ish and bleak, but, if uncompromising yet adventurous doom metal is your cup of tea, welcome to your personal nirvana. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia

$11.49 (MP3 Available for Download) It has the same name as the Crüe's 1998 compilation, along with 13 of the same tracks, but the 2009 Greatest Hits is a different beast than its predecessor, weighing in at 19 tracks instead of 17 and sequenced chronologically instead of the year-skipping hodgepodge of 1998. These are all improvements, ...
| | Devin Townsend Addicted CD (2009)
Angels Of Distress MP3 Album
$13.85 Devin Townsend's maniacal/wacky tendencies duel with his instinct for skull-crushing heaviness on ADDICTED, the second in a planned trilogy of albums he's put together since retiring his ultimate metal band, Strapping Young Lad, a few years back. Anneke van Giersbergen, formerly of the Gathering, is Townsend's vocal partner throughout much of the album, creating a Lacuna Coil-esque effect as he roars and she croons and the guitar riffs ride almost disco- and techno-like rhythms. "Bend It Like Bender" is a particularly weird blend of metal and Hi-NRG, something Rammstein might come up with after a weekend of carousing in Berlin's most flamboyant discos. Other tracks, like "Supercrush" and the mostly acoustic "Ih-Ah," ...

| | Nickelback All The Right Reasons CD (2005)
Angels Of Distress songs
$15.39 (MP3 Available for Download) As always, frontman Chad Kroeger's gritty voice remains Nickelback's calling card, and his emotive singing carries every tune, most notably the nostalgic "Photograph" and "Far Away," a tender, echo-laden ballad. Kroger has never met a guitar effect that he didn't like, as evidenced by the revved-up "Next Contestant," which relates the, ahem, difficulties of having a beautiful girlfriend. Though ALL THE RIGHT REASONS is slightly more eclectic than the group's past releases, it's unmistakably a Nickelback outing, and fans of the band are sure to be pleased.
On 2005's ALL THE RIGHT REASONS, the Canadian heavy-rock band Nickelback offers up more of its straightforward, guitar-fueled anthems. The pummeling opening track, "Follow You Home," features a no-frills Southern-rock ...
| | Ministry Land Of Rape And Honey CD (1988)
Angels Of Distress album
$11.69 (MP3 Available for Download) The Land of Rape and Honey represented Ministry's stylistic breakthrough, combining assaultive percussion, samples, synths, and (sometimes) crunching guitars with distorted, barking vocals. For all the emphasis on the group's metal/industrial fusion, it's really only the first three (and best) tracks on Rape and Honey -- "Stigmata," "The Missing," and "Deity" -- that employ guitars extensively. The remainder of the album merely suggests heavy metal aggression through its electronic and sampled ...
