With one foot in adult pop, one in country, and one in singer/songwriterdom, Mary Chapin Carpenter has always been tough to pin down. TIME*SEX*LOVE probably won't make it any easier for listeners to pigeonhole her, either. The album represents all the facets of Carpenter's work, from moody folk-rock ("Swept Away") to bluesy, Bonnie Raitt-like grit ("Simple Life"). Along the way, a number of other influences peek their head into the mix. The baroque, harmony-laden sound of "Maybe World" is redolent of PET SOUNDS-era Beach Boys, while the sparkling pop-rock of "The Long Way Home" is reminiscent of Carpenter's take on Lucinda Williams's "Passionate Kisses." "In the Name of Love" even employs a sitar as a key element. Clearly, Carpenter is an artist whose only unwavering characteristic is a commitment to intelligent songwriting. When it comes to stylistic detours, she shows an appealing tendency to wander the map.

Time* Sex* Love Music Review
Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Stellar Recording and 5.1 mix Hello, If I hadn't seen a review of this disc elswhere, I would have easily passed on this disc. While I'm not opposed to Mary's "country-ish" tunes, my collection of 5.1 discs is pretty vast, and I want all of my surround disc purchases to stand up to the rest. I aquired this disc primarily because George Massenburg did the recording and 5.1 mix, and that it was done at Sir George Martin's AIR Studios in England. A top shelf sound and great, enveloping mix make this A MUST BUY! Thank you. Submitted by patrick_roseberry (Glen Ellyn, Illinois) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
time is the great gift By this album, I have been takin' by the greatness of one super artist in Mary Chapin Carpenter. In this album is three words *time *sex *love. *time is the great gift, *sex is the great equalizer *love is the great mystery. In that is much of what Mary does best, make you think outside the box. She is about the same age that I am and has that way of making me stop and think. Her music is so much more, *time *sex *love open your mind to a better place, Mary's music is that great gift. Thank You some much Mary, I love you and thank you for another great album. Submitted by cdsena1 (Mesa, AZ, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
