The high point of Kansas's long career, 1977's POINT OF KNOW RETURN found the American heartlanders finally striking the perfect balance between complex prog-rock, hard-hitting heavy guitar work, and crafty pop sensibilities. This is perhaps ... Full Descriptionbest exemplified by the title cut, a sparkling tune full of jaunty interaction between piano and violin that moves unerringly through some tricky musical maneuvers, while remaining engagingly catchy and accessible. The electrifying riffs that fly around in "Lightning's Hand" and "The Spider" show that the knack for tunes like the previous album's classic "Carry On Wayward Son" had not deserted Kansas. At the same time, thoughtful (but not saccharine) ballads such as "Dust in the Wind" and "Hopelessly Human" make it clear that there was more than flash to the band. Nevertheless, there's honestly impressive flash aplenty to be found here in Kansas's finest hour.

Kansas Point Of Know Return Songs Point Of Know Return Music Point Of Know Return Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews The Best American Band What a pain it can be for music lovers in Australia. Kansas are my favourite US group, only Tull come in front of them.
The well known songs of this are classics, but the tracks like He Knew, Closet Chronicles and Nobody's Home are just as great. Sensational lyrics.
Another group never seen here. Submitted by pesmith (Adelaide, SA, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
POINT OF KNOW RETURN-KANSAS EXCELLENT ALBUM--ESPECIALLY ENJOYED THE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF SPARKS OF THE TEMPEST AND PORTRAIT(HE KNEW)--THIS IS A MUST FOR ANY KANSAS FAN Submitted by bbjnnovak (CHICAGO,IL. USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Must have CD of this group. Best Kansas music evah! I have listen to Kansas since 1975 and with each album the got better. When they came out with "Leftoverture" I thought they had reached the "pinnacle" of progressive rock. I was so wrong. "Point of No Return" is the high water mark for this unique American band. Every song is musically different and yet has the ability to make you wait for the next song, to see how different it will be compared to the others. If you buy any Kansas album, by this one first. Then buy the rest. You won't be dissappointed. Submitted by tcs (Glasgow, KY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Another remastered all time rock classic from Kansas. Number 3 in the Kansas remaster series & their 5th original album release. This album, in my opinion, has the best artwork & sleeve notes of all time as well as the music which displays a band at it's creative peak in 1977. The music is simply stunning; classic American prog rock by an awesome group of musicians who had produced 4 excellent long players in a hectic 2 year period culminating in this excellent set.
Now remastered by original producer Jeff Glixman & with all original artwork again & 2 "bonus" tracks, this cd should be in every rock fan's collection. You won't be disapointed. Submitted by nigelgains (Macclesfield, Cheshire, U.K.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Among classicals I was some 11 years old, in 1978, when I had first this album – from Hungarian Public Radio (don't forget, it was at that time when communist government reigned at its top!). While listening to Point of Know Return, I wished I remained forever near to the speakers of my antediluvian tape-recorder. During these past 30 years I have discovered millions of albums, I've been attracted mainly by classical works but this work has never been set aside. Point Of Know Return album
$11.39 From their inception, Kansas had been working on a combination of American heavy rock and UK prog rock. Their aesthetic and commercial peak in 1976-'77 found them achieving the perfect synthesis of these elements, first on LEFTOVERTURE and then on POINT OF KNOW RETURN. While the latter was somewhat more concise and accessible, LEFTOVERTURE contains what is inarguably the Midwestern band's signature song, "Carry On, My Wayward Son," an irresistible riff-fest that channels everything from Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull to Lynyrd Skynyrd, and would make Kansas rock-radio denizens for decades to come. On many of the other tracks, the band's proggier elements come ...

Point Of Know Return songs
$7.29 It was widely assumed that when vocalist/songwriter Jon Anderson left Yes at the end of the '70s, the band was doomed. Most folks forgot that bassist/composer Chris Squire was the other founding member of the band, and he had as much to do with their sound as Anderson. It was surprising enough when the band decided to continue with a new vocalist and keyboardist. It was even more surprising when the new members turned out to be Trevor Horn (later a famed pop producer) and Geoff Downes (who would soon depart with Steve Howe for Asia). And it was downright shocking when the resultant album DRAMA turned out to be a great one.
While Horn's voice is in the same general range as Anderson's, he tends to blend more with the vocals of Howe and Squire for a distinctive three-part harmony sound. Similarly, the individual instrumental statements of Howe and Downes avoid grandstanding in favor of the group dynamic. Consequently, DRAMA ...

Point Of Know Return album
$6.15 When Jon Anderson rejoined Yes after DRAMA, he was inserting himself into an unusual situation. Keyboardist Geoff Downes and longtime guitarist Steve Howe had left to form Asia with prog rock vets John Wetton (King Crimson, Roxy Music etc.) and Carl Palmer (ELP). Chris Squire and Alan White brought original Yes keysman Tony Kaye back and recruited vibrant young Australian guitarist/vocalist/composer Trevor Rabin. The quartet had already begun writing and recording, but Anderson was able to insert himself into the proceedings with such ease that the new combination sounds completely natural on 90125.
Mostly, the band was concerned with trimming the musical fat to keep pace with the onslaught of the 1980s. Thus, tracks like "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and "City of Love" are full of samples, splices and almost funky beats and riffs. The ...

$10.49 NINE LIVES was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. "Falling In Love (Is Hard On The Knees)" was nominated for a 1998 Grammy for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
"Pink" won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and was nominated for Best Short Form Music Video.
NINE LIVES marks Aerosmith's return to Columbia Records, the label for which it had its first round of stardom in the 1970s, and the label with which the band nearly slid off the rock and roll map altogether in the 1980s. Columbia shelled out a lot of money to woo back the now-bigger-than-ever band, and ends up getting exactly the kind of over-the-top pop-rock it was paying for. Working with producer Kevin Shirley (Silverchair, Journey), the seemingly ageless combo from Boston has made another record overflowing with sexual innuendo ("Pink", "Falling In Love [Is Hard On The Knees]"), power ballads ("Fallen Angels," "Hole In My Soul") and hard-hitting riffs ("Nine Lives," "Crash").
Continuing its recent fascination with sounds alien to hard rock (didja notice the Polynesian log drums on 1993's GET A GRIP?), Aerosmith dabbles with Indian culture on NINE LIVES. You can see it in the colorful packaging of the album, and hear it on "Taste Of India," which picks up where Led Zeppelin's classic "Kashmir" left ...
