| | Hed Kandi: Deeper CD (2 Customer Reviews)
As with nearly every other release from Hed Kandi, Deeper, Vol. 2 is a two-disc compilation that places style over substance. While it's admirable that labels such as Hed Kandi cater to clubbers who haven't the resources or desire to track down every single 12", the majority of material they gather together for each release is hollow. And, when the few tracks that rise above these problems are placed within that context, they become smoothed out and lose whatever impact they had to begin with. As bold and flashy as these tracks are, they become grindingly tedious and, within a short stretch of time, vapid. This set features Timo Maas' "To Get Down," Kings of Tomorrow's "Finally (Danny Tenaglia's Time Marches on Mix)," Puretone's "Addicted to Bass (Differentgear Mix)," Shauna Solomon's "I Wanna Be (Ricky Montanari and Stefano Greppi Deep Vox Mix)," and Stylus Trouble's "Future Child." ~ Andy Kellman
The second installment of deep house grooves from the label popular for their expert collections of the best tracks. The unimixed collection includes serious tracks from iiO, Urban Dwellers, Superchumbo, Robert Armani, Kings of Tomorrow, Celeda, Brown & Brown and more.
Includes liner notes by Mark Doyle. Hed Kandi: Deeper Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Deeper 2 lives up to the Hed Kandi tradition Good stuff. Deeper 2 is much more progressive than its predecessor (which was more Deep House), yet it still manages to deliver stirring vocals and rhythyms while hitting you with some serious bass lines.
CD 1 is freaking amazing. Would have gotten a 5 but I feel CD 2 is somewhat lacking. The tracks have a little too much, hmm how do I phrase this, generic electronic sound and beats for my taste. It might just need to grow on me a little more. Plus it has remixes of 2 songs off of Deeper 1, which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your taste.
All in all a very solid pickup, and I definitely recommend it. Submitted by a reviewer (Stamford, CT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Deep, Deep, House... This compilation contains some banging Deep House tracks. Including some of the years biggest smashes, KOT-finally, and iio-rapture(tastes so sweet)! Overall a good introduction into the latest house sounds be produced today. The comp ranges from deep organic house, to techy deep progressive house. Leaving a house fan truly satisfied, YUM YUM! If you do not like constant vocals in your house music; then avoid this comp. It's vocal heavy at times and can leave the listener wishing they'd just shut up! Hed Kandi: Deeper album
$11.69 Too much of a good thing is, well, too much. Listen to the first cut on Blue Six's Beautiful Tomorrow and you'll think, hey, this is sweet: lounge-y warm house music, toasty synth washes that cascade atop a penetrating (but not intrusive) bottom end. This is positive energy, not the seedy late-night vibes often associated with the genre and after-hours clubbing. Each track is a lofty, dreamy soundscape, ...

$19.49 If Hed Kandi's now ubiquitous club compilations leave any sort of lasting legacy, it will probably be the highly stylized deco-femmes that adorn the cover of each release. The music on these compilations, however, has often been limited to the whims of popular house music culture, which means that thoughtful programming is often overridden by big hit after big hit. In that sense, Hed Kandi: Disco Kandi 05.02 is not much different from any other Hed Kandi release, except to say that the past year had some cuts that were clever as well as catchy. Satisfying for house-heads while satiating the popular masses.

During the '90s, dance producers voyaged into uncharted genre-crossover waters (jazz, classical, dub, academic electronics) with increasing regularity, so it was just a matter of time before at least one act attempted a recording inspired by Latin music, specifically the Cuban phenomenon of Buena Vista Social Club. It's doubtful, however, that anyone in the ...
