In the jazz world, tribute albums are inescapable. Every week, jazz artists are recording tributes to Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Cole Porter, or someone else they admire. But in rock, they aren't as plentiful -- for every Bob Dylan, Doors, or Rolling Stones tribute that gets recorded, there are a lot more Ellington or George Gershwin tributes coming from the jazz world. One of rock's more tribute-minded labels is Cleopatra, which has paid homage to countless rockers. As a rule, Cleopatra's tribute albums are interesting -- and this 2002 release (which finds 12 different artists providing Tool covers) is no exception. Even if A Tribute to Tool is mildly uneven; it has more ups than downs and offers a lot of intriguing takes on the headbangers' songs. The best covers are the ones that bring something new or different to a familiar song; operating on that premise, the artists on this CD acknowledge Tool on their own terms instead of slavishly emulating the band. While Tool's forte is alternative metal, A Tribute to Tool is full of industrial, darkwave, and goth rock interpretations of its songs. Not everything on the CD works, but most of the time, A Tribute to Tool hits its mark. Mists of Avalon successfully gives "Prison Sex" a goth makeover, while an industrial outlook works well for Translation Collapse on "Reflection," Beauty on "Disgustipated," and Razed in Black on "Part of Me." One of the best tracks is the Electric Hellfire Club's "Opiate" makeover; Hellfire's campy, over-the-top sense of fun is quite a contrast to Tool's artsy leanings. Do those with only a casual interest in Tool need to hear 12 Tool covers? Probably not. But Tool's hardcore fans will find this CD meaningful if they also have an appetite for industrial, darkwave, and goth rock. ~ Alex Henderson Tribute To Tool Songs | 1. | Disgustipated - Beauty |

| Tribute To Tool Music Review Average Rating: (1.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews F*** all these NIN wannabes If you like TOOL, you'll HATE this album. Imagine amateur industrial bands trying to do TOOL. Micheal Bolton couldn't have screwed up the tunes worse. Some songs come through well, only because they were written by Maynard and Adam. Overall, it's pure crap. Don't waste your cash! Submitted by a reviewer (Pensacola, FL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Its not that bad there are a few good songs on here They can never be TOOL, a tribute in my opinion is to hear how other bands play tools music and how differently the message, mood what have you comes across. theyre are some crappy songs on here but my suggestion to allthose people who complain about tributes, if you dont know any of the bands that are doing the covers dont buy it. or if you arent willing to listen to alternative styles of the music being covered. I dont think in any tribute they are attempting to sound like the bad they are covering, wouldnt make sense to copy them exactly would it? ***A sad day for TOOL fans*** This is quite possibly the worst album I have ever heared. i'm sad that I had to give this album even one star. All it is is crappy bands you've never heared of comepletely and utterly slughtering the greatest band in world's songs. I had no idea it was possible to make these amazing songs sound soooo bad. I threw this album up against the wall. and i've never done that. it's impossible to re-sell and no true TOOL fan would ever let anyone else listen to this album... EVER!!!!! A complete and utter waste of money!! JUST SAY NO!!! Submitted by a reviewer (SLC, UT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Not Bad, Diffrent Sounds I like some of the songs on the album. It's not bad at all. I mean, yeah they're bands that sux on the album but then again, the mixes are pretty good. If you are looking for new bands to listen to, this might be a good album. Submitted by a reviewer (Alabama) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Tribute To Tool album
$12.29 BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than either Woody or Hess. Carlsson and drummer Matt Abst are a solid match, since Abst is a drummer used to shifting time signatures and allowing ...

Tribute To Tool CD music
$10.65 I was born, and live, in the middle of West Texas. Hot and dry. Except on the rare occasions when it rains, in which case it’s hot and humid. Like a lot of folks out here, I play music because it seems to make me a little less crazy than when I don’t.My album collection consists primarily of Willie and Waylon, Kris Kristofferson & John Prine. I dig BW Stevenson and Robert Earl. And of course, Jimmy Buffett. My music is naturally – and often, heavily – influenced by what I listen to.There are times when I will sit down and intentionally write a song that I can hear Willie Nelson singing, like “What’ll I Do”. Or “Cleveland”, that I wrote as a tribute to Waylon Jennings. And then there are times when I think I have created something truly original, only to have it referred to as “that Buffett knock-off that you do.”My new album consists of original compositions, plus “Again and Again” by a great friend and songwriter, Greg Long. And a Spanglish version of Steve Goodman’s “You Never Even Called Me by My Name”. (My part of the world is about 60% Mexican and largely bilingual. Goes over pretty well in the beer joints around here. Email me if you’d like a rough translation.)One of my favorite cuts on the new disc is “Pretending I Don’t Mind.” I wrote it several years ago as a duet. At the time, I was playing with a four piece hillbilly band. It didn’t make sense lyrically to sing it by myself and although it might have made some sense, I certainly wasn’t going to sing it with one of the boys. Not exactly the impression I wanted to make, especially in conservative West Texas. My wife Codi Zane graciously agreed to help me in the studio. That’s her angelic soprano juxtaposed with my out-of-tune out-of-time vocal “stylings”.I wrote “Old Friend” for my dad. His longtime best friend offed himself after years of battling depression. I remember going over to his buddy’s house in the evenings and singing “Annie’s Song” and “Country Roads” and a bunch of Simon & Garfunkel. Mac played a twelve-string Martin. Dad played tambourine, but for the song I felt like mandolin rhymed better.“Rosita” was recorded with one ...
