Let's get one thing straight right off the bat; they're not the Pogues. The casual listener might be forgiven for making such a mistake, as Flogging Molly is clearly influenced by Shane McGowan's rabble-rousers, but beyond the combination of lyrical Irish folk with punky rock rhythms, Flogging Molly is a band with its own identity. As the accordion, fiddle and banjo toss off traditional sounds steeped in Irish musical history, the slamming drums, raging guitar, and of course vocalist/songwriter Dave King's colorful tales present a forceful rock outfit. "What's Left of the Flag" shows Flogging Molly's political acumen, while "The Sun Never Shines (On Closed Doors)" takes on larger, more metaphysical subjects. But whether the septet, who wield pennywhistles and pipes as easily as Telecasters and Stratocasters, are playing the role of rowdies or reinventing the folk ballad with rocker fury, their emotional commitment is palpable and total.

Flogging Molly - Drunken Idiots I've recently started hearing about how Fastway has reunited with one original member, guitarist Fast Eddie Clarke. When I asked about vocalist Dave King, I was informed he was the vocalist now in this lame-o ensemble many of you actually think of as a band. Just last week, I saw they were soon playing a venue in my town. I then heard some sound bites and sat through two of their videos I viewed on You Tube. Thank goodness for such because I never would have found just HOW little I can stand these bunch of Irish dance pop rejects! To properly enjoy this CD, I'd have to be SO FREAKING drunk it wouldn't be funny. Mr. King, how could you do this to us? Get BACK with Fastway before it's too late. When I saw the mosh pit going on in those two Flogging Myself videos, I felt like I wanted to bash in my monitor! If you dig Irish pop music made for fans who DON'T know any better, then get this CD. Otherwise, avoid at ALL costs. Submitted by straight_man1975 (everywhere..) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo 5 of 8 found this helpful.

I'm sure there's some people that'll disagree, but in my opinion...THIS CD IS FOOKIN' AWESOME! Irish-influenced punk at its best. I definitely recommend it. Submitted by Kitty (Blacksburg, VA, 24060) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
