Tveitt: Hardanger Fiddle Concertos 1 And 2, Etc / Bergset CD

 Hardanger Cocertos: A real Winner.
As a collector over fifty years, this is the first time I have come across these Hardanger Fiddle concertos. They are a real find. Characterful music of real imagination played with tremendous aplomb by Arve Moen Bergset, who is equally at home on both types of fiddle. The music, particularly in its quicker moments reminds one of Malcolm Arnold, a real sense of quirky fun complementing its rich melodic vein. The BIS recording seems exemplary in every way, allowing us to hear some wonderful playing from the percussion department of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra under Ole Kristian Ruud. I commend this record to anyone with a sense of adventure; I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
