(9 Customer Reviews)
SO consolidated Gabriel's reputation as an original and exciting composer, capable of projecting sophisticated lyrics on accessible melodies. 'Sledgehammer' was a massive hit (number one in the USA), as was 'Don't Give Up', with Kate Bush's vocals adding extra pathos. 'This Is The Picture' clearly shows the slightly surreal influence of co-writer Laurie Anderson, and the whole is given flight by Daniel Lanois' impeccable production. The towering achievement, however, is 'Mercy Street', a sparely orchestrated and perfectly constructed tribute to the late poet Anne Sexton.

"If this was only 187th out of 500 in the 80's, I can't even imagine what the top 186 were, speaking of how poorly the 80's music was but for a spark of hope from a legendary giant!"
You should learn to read before you make comments. It clearly states that it came #187 in the 500 GREATEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME and #14 in the 100 BEST ALBUMS OF THE 80's. Meaning there were only 13 better albums in the 1980s, according to Rolling Stone. Not 187!!!

The grand facade! Haven't always been too crazy about some of Peter's solo efforts post Genesis, but he nailed it here! If this was only 187th out of 500 in the 80's, I can't even imagine what the top 186 were, speaking of how poorly the 80's music was but for a spark of hope from a legendary giant! This has to rank in the top ten of anything I purchased in the 80's! Submitted by mheinen3 (Oklahoma City, OK, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Steve Hackett also had some great solo albums Peter Gabriel's solo success was obviously very big. Don't Give Up, Mercy Street, Red Rain, and This is the Picture are my personal favorites. Not crazy about the other songs that were overplayed; but that didn't make Pete a bad artist. Despite the fact that Genesis went to crap in the 80s, former Genesis composer and guitar player(as well as Peter Gabriel's bandmate) Steve Hackett also had a great solo career. Albums like Defector, Spectral Mornings, and Please Don't Touch, you really can't beat it. Check Steve out! Submitted by sexysniffit (Englewood Cliffs, Minnesota) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Purchase So CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Michael Buble Crazy Love CD (2009)
So album
$14.49 Buoyed by the popularity of the hit contemporary pop ballad "Home," singer Michael Bublé's 2005 album, IT'S TIME, clearly positioned the vocalist as the preeminent neo-crooner of his generation. Easily the singer's most stylistically wide-ranging album so far, 2009's CRAZY LOVE is also one of his brightest, poppiest, and most fun. Bublé kicks things off with the theatrical, epic ballad "Cry Me a River" and proceeds to milk the tune with burnished breath, eking out the drama line by line. It's over the top for sure, but Bublé takes you to the edge of the cliff, prepares to jump, and then gives you a ...

| | 30 Seconds To Mars This Is War CD (2009)
So album
$12.24 On This Is War, 30 Seconds to Mars shift their music with the shifting times, adopting a hybrid of the Killers' retro new wave and My Chemical Romance's gothic prog, winding up with a sound that suits their stance. Producers Steve Lillywhite and Flood, both veterans of U2, do give This Is War an appropriately epic scale, helping to bring into focus this mix of synth rock, metal, and prog flavors with Auto-Tuned vocals, gurgling synthesized loops, Kanye cameos, and a children's choir on almost every other song. This move toward goth-glam requires 30 Seconds to emphasize hooks and gives them aural variety, which makes this their most appealing album. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Emotional bloodletting never quite fit 30 Seconds to Mars -- perhaps ...
| | Shakira She Wolf CD (2009)
So CD music
$12.95 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as cuckoo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and ...

So album
$16.45 Please welcome to centre stage, James Childs, Simon Hedges and Christopher Fielden, the one and only Portishead Wall of Sound - Jinxremover! Spawning from Bristolʼs saviours of rock, Airbus, and rising from the vaults of Rock ʻnʼ Roll, they shred their axes with ease and vamp their hard rocking compositions of old with new.Jinxremover bares its rock ʻnʼ roll roots to all with glimmers of their varied classic influences such as, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Nirvana, Motorhead, Pink Floyd, The Beatles,The Stones, Hawkwind as well as more recent acts like The Super Furry Animals and PJ Harvey. Jinxremover is a new project made up of players that ooze experience, who have been to the gates of hell and back with eachother, combing out all the industry bullshit and sticking to their vintage guns firing classic song after classic song. The band used to be together under the moniker Airbus and had been together since 1988 garnering a great deal of success on the UK live circuit and with their string of releases, most notably the 'Ghosts' album. They started their own record label which they dubbed Spira, purchased their own recording studio, signed with BMG Music and were commissioned by the band Portishead to rewrite a rock version of the band's classic song 'Sourtimes' for release as the hit singleʼs B-side. The turn of the century marked a massive change for the band brought on by a big move to the USA. After working with various high profile producers for two years after the move, the natural stress caused by this change led to the indefinite hiatus of the band. James Childs continued to forge his musical career by working with Geoff Barrow (Portishead) and Peter Finestone (Bad Religion) on the Black on Sunshine album 'Loves You. ' That record was co-produced by James Childs and Sargon Dooman of Los Angeles, the latter of whom had stepped in to cover bass duties for Airbus in the US. James Childs went on to produce two albums for Vic du Monte's Persona Non Grata, co-writing one of them, and playing in that band with Chris Cockrell (Kyuss) and Alfredo Hernandez (Kyuss/Queens of the Stoneage). Together they completed a US tour and 4 European tours all within the span of one year. Nicholas Davidge (Airbus) who ...

$18.99 What an amazing experience it is, as God in His incredible love for me and perfect timing, brings me back with power and might to those places of wounding and emptiness in my heart and life for the purpose of healing and wholeness through Him. As a child, my identity, joy and peace got snuffed out through the experience of being sexually molested. For years I carried the accompanying fear, pain, shame, confusion and mistrust as well as a constant effort of upkeep and self protection that was never meant to be.What a joy to hear Jesus' voice ...
