Weezer has been having it both ways for some time; churning out barn-burning alt-rock riffs while maintaining a degree of ironic distance via their nerdy image and quirky twists and turns. Don't be fooled by the geek garb, though, head Weezer Rivers Cuomo is the kind of guy who could raid your refrigerator and steal your girlfriend without ever removing his horn-rimmed glasses. MALADROIT finds Cuomo and his post-modern pals continuing to walk that tricky tightrope between rock and "rock." Whether you believe they mean it or not, the visceral pleasures of the chugging "Dope Nose," the Gary Glitter rivalry of "Keep Fishin'," and the white-boy R&B of "Burndt Jamb" are easy to assimilate. And the first pressing comes with the bonus of seven video clips, so what are you waiting for? Put down that pocket protector, slap on your Doc Martens, and go get MALADROIT.

Don't Believe the Hype! Weezer's back again, and word is they're set to record another album! Is this a case of overload? Maybe. This is a good disc full of Rivers' signature tunes. The sound is more hard-edged and rough, and less poppy than the "Blue" and "Green" albums. The songs are good, but they don't live up to those on the "colored" discs. Don't believe all the gushing reviews out there. This is a fun listen, but it's a bit of a letdown compared to previous releases. Submitted by a reviewer (Milford, MA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Terrible When i listened to Weezer's Green album, i thought it was pretty awful copared to older Weezer. After i bought Maladroit and listened to it for the first time i couldn't wait to hear the green album again. Maladroit makes the green album seem like the worlds greatest rock cd ever. Maladroit is not catchy or interesting at all and after listening to it once i don't feel i ever have to hear the garbage weezer considered a finished album again. It seems like they threw a bunch of crappy songs together and said lets release it as an album just cause we know our fans will buy it. I will never buy another weezer album again. Maladroit album
$11.35 After wooing teenage girls across America with its infectious debut record, Weezer appears to be getting more serious with this follow-up. PINKERTON still features immensely catchy tunes and the band's trademark crunchy guitars, but Weezer is now exuding more mature emotions within its songs. The lads have eschewed their preppy bowl cuts for a more ...

Maladroit CD music
$10.45 There's a demented pop fanaticism to Weezer you gotta love. Weezer's debut, produced by former Cars frontman Ric Ocasek, combines Pixies roller-coaster guitar rides with a helping of Beatle-esque moptop harmonies. Ocasek's production and Weezer's strong material will bring a glimmer of recognition to the eyes of anyone who remembers the Cars' melodic pop hooks.
Weezer's songs are groovy garage sales you wish happened every weekend. Songs like "The World Turned And Left Me Here" and "Surf Wax America" betray the heart of a kid who would rather skateboard to work every day than face up to the responsibility of buying a car.
Rivers Cuomo's wit and songwriting chops are evident in "In The Garage," where he sums up his generation's fascination with kitsch pop culture. Cuomo readily makes fun of Kiss posters and his own "stupid words" and "stupid songs," but later, in "Say It Ain't So," his self-mocking seems more like self-protection. ...

$11.29 In 1994 Weezer burst onto the music scene, reaching platinum status with their debut, and in the process proving that there was still room in an airbrushed MTV world for unrepentant power pop played by decidedly non-airbrushed guys. Following a brief sojourn into semi-deconstructionism, 1997's PINKERTON, the four men who make up Weezer serve up a third offering, WEEZER 2001, ...

Maladroit songs
$10.55 Far too much attention has been focused on this album's tortured history; band makes weird album, label rejects it, band buys it back and puts it out a year later through another arm of the same corporation. For the record, wildly overexcited Radiohead comparisons aside, the album's not that weird--it merely ventures a bit further down the sonic-shambles roads explored on the band's previous two releases. As has been noted elsewhere, the most valid reference point for the occasional pop deconstructions of YANKEE HOTEL FOXTROT is Big Star's THIRD/SISTER LOVERS, not Thom Yorke and company.
The most significant factor in this nominal weird-out is the presence of producer Jim O'Rourke, ...
